Hua Lu (Lost in Nature) Hotel My wife and I stayed here for three nights in December 2023, but regretted that our schedule did not allow us to stay longer. The Hua Lu Hotel is a charming boutique hotel located in the Ming Shi village that features clusters of needle mountains that aggressively protrude from what otherwise appears to be a level agricultural plain. The origins of the village were for its farming potential but the stunning beauty of the location has popularized it as a tourist haunt, a place to visit either before or after checking out the Detian Waterfall on the China-Vietnam border. In among the locals’ modest houses, several B&Bs and hotels have sprouted to cater to tourists wanting a wide spectrum of accommodations from the extremely basic up to relatively high-end resorts. The Hua Lu (Lost in Nature) is best categorized as a high-end boutique hotel. It is situated on the eastern periphery of Ming Shi well away (approximately a kilometer) from a busy highway around which many of its competitors are clustered. The accent at the Hua Lo is on tranquility. Our room was a well-conceived suite that had been furnished with a Zen sensibility. The bathroom featured an oversize bathtub and separate shower unit, and there was a spacious and comfortable sitting area. A south-facing balcony overlooked an intensely cultivated, multi-acre market-garden, irrigated by river-fed, man-made channels. Locals could be observed tending crops from dawn to dusk in these fields. A Chinese style breakfast was included the room fee, but we also opted to eat dinner each evening in the hotel restaurant. Both breakfast and dinner meals were prepared with an accent on health and use of locally grown foods. After dark, an open fireplace in a courtyard was used to barbecue snacks such as sweet potato and chicken: the courtyard doubled as a children’s play area and storage place for bicycles (pedal) which could be used by hotel guests. Evidence suggests that tourism has trumped agriculture as the main occupation of the Ming Shi village. For tourists who prefer a more communal experience, the village offers guided sampan tours on the river that wends its way through the village. However, the best way to benefit from the village scenery is by bicycle. Cycling around the village and its dramatic needle-mountain vistas is easy, the bike trails are converted ag paths that intertwine the crop fields. They are paved and free of the traffic of tourist coaches, trucks and E-scooters that rage along the main highway. My wife and I felt that we had come across a gem of experience that vastly exceeded our expectations when we booked the hotel. We plan to visit again next year, to enjoy a longer stay with the R&R it provides. Sean Bennett

We had a bad start as there was no one to check us in despite arriving at 3:00pm, but they apologized and made it up to us. The lady who runs the place and her two dogs were very friendly. Really bad weather in Ping’an village (Nov 13-14), luckily the room was beautiful and comfortable. It was pity we couldn’t enjoy the views from our balcony because of the fog. The bathroom was a highlight, better than the ones we had in 4* hotels all over China. One thing we did notice is that there was no table inside the room as the pictures had you believe. We did have a table in the balcony, but not inside the room, so we couldn’t use it as it was really really cold outside. The internet was fine, could do some work from my room. **On a side note, if you plan to get here from Guilin using public transportation you should think twice. We took the bus from Qintan station to Longshen at 10:00am and ended up arriving at the hotel until 3:00pm as we didn’t catch the connecting bus to Ping’An. The bus also makes a lot stops so it’s not time efficient. It was cheap though, and people at both stations were super friendly and eager to lead us to the right bus.

This place is absolutely magical. Me and my friends drank coffee on the roof every morning, the views are stunning. Lily the host is just an immaculate human being with a wonderful heart made of gold. She was so helpful with finding all the crags and good local food! The place has a real character that should not be missed out on! This was the perfect place to meet other climbers and get connected to the community in Yangshuo. The location is perfect for access to good food and good routes. I climbed every day but one! She has scooters, guidebooks and rental gear if needed. The place is legendary! 10/10 would book again! The location of the hotel is very good. It is in the Three Streets and Two Alleys scenic area, next to Cangxi Gate. If you walk down, it is not far from Yongjiang River. If you like Wang Yangming, it will be better to book this hotel. Wang Yang is just a few steps away. A memorial to Ming Dynasty. The front desk service was very good and they upgraded me to a room type with a terrace overlooking the three streets and two alleys. I could also sit on the deck chairs on the terrace and enjoy the breeze. It was very comfortable. The room is simple and clean, the mattress is relatively comfortable, and the slippers are also good. It's not the National Day holiday yet, so the price is also very good. It can be said to be high quality and low price.

The rooms in the B&B with two cities and one living room are on the top floor and have a great view. It is about 900 meters away from the starting point of Longji Jinkeng Cableway. The owner's family is very nice and the food they cook is very delicious. The chicken soup is great if you eat two of them.

Taking the family on a self-driving tour, the first stop was here. It is very close to the Li River Scenic Area and the scenery outside the room is very beautiful! ! The environment of the B&B is really good. When traveling with young and old, the most important thing you pay attention to is the hygiene. We had a very pleasant stay at Zen Garden Resort. The staff are very kind and helpful, and can arrange free shuttles to anywhere within 7km of the Resort (which is close enough for several attractions and Yangshuo town). The room was quite spacious and comfortable, with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. We particularly enjoyed the incense and tea in the room which set a very relaxing mood. The Resort also offers a range of activities like breathing meditations in the morning and lantern decorating at night which we enjoyed. The restaurant was especially excellent for all meals, and even provide free afternoon tea from 3-4pm. The fat cat in the lobby, Baozi, and the small dogs were lovely to have around. It’s within about 10-20 minutes drive away from most attractions the area, but there are also some nice walks you can do around the Resort. A bit on the expensive side, but you will definitely have a good time here.

The service has been excellent. The owner, despite not speaking English, has been very helpful, helping us at all times with anything and always with a smile. The hotel has very good views, directly on the rice terraces and with a very decent community space. The quality-price ratio is excellent, highly recommended.

The store has complete facilities, but there was no hot water supply around 9pm. I took a cold shower and asked the host if there were too many people using hot water at the same time. It would be better if it was later. Everything else was very good. The main reason was that the price was reasonable!

Lovely family run hotel with delicious food in the restaurant and a great atmosphere in the evening. Appreciated the pick up from the central square (taxis don’t operate in the terrace area) and the evening foot baths (needed after a long day walking). Lots of lovely hikes in the area and the scenery is spectacular. Wished we could have stayed longer.

I found this B&B online. Thanks to the owner for upgrading the room. The scenery is so beautiful. I can't get enough of the fried bamboo shoots. The bamboo tube chicken and bamboo tube rice are especially fresh and sweet. I will come to your home again if I have the chance. Before leaving, I also brought some monk fruit grown by the owner to drink in water. It's cheaper than what is sold outside. It's mainly for peace of mind. I'd like to add that our luggage is quite heavy. The owner's mother carried it on her back when we came and went. I was very touched. Don't miss this home if you want to come.
