Misleading and Inconsistent Children’s Breakfast Pricing - Prior to my stay, I referred to the TRIP website, which clearly stated that the breakfast price for children was RM44.80 per child. However, on the morning of 26th December 2025, I was charged RM56.00 per child for my 6-year-old.
When I questioned this discrepancy, the manager claimed that the updated price was already reflected on the website. This was not accurate at the time of my booking, and I was not informed of any price change in advance. I have screenshots of the pricing information as reference. This situation was misleading and caused unnecessary inconvenience.

No deposit required. The room size is just okay. The AC is cold! Bathroom could use some extra lighting, especially the mirror area.
It's a decent hotel for a short stay. Sound proofing isn't that good, you can hear people walking around and closing doors.

Este hotel foi, sem dúvida, o mais confortável de toda a viagem. Em primeiro lugar, o conforto geral do quarto é excelente, a roupa de cama é macia, a disposição é sensata e é muito relaxante estar no quarto, sem qualquer sensação de opressão. O que mais me agradou foi o excelente isolamento acústico; ao fechar a porta, tudo fica muito tranquilo. Seja para descansar à noite ou para uma sesta durante o dia, consegui dormir profundamente, o que é ótimo para quem tem sono leve.
A vista também é fantástica, com o mar visível da cama. As vistas do mar ao amanhecer e ao anoitecer são especialmente terapêuticas, e observar o mar melhora o humor. O pequeno-almoço também é de alta qualidade, com uma grande variedade e sabores deliciosos, e os ingredientes são frescos, o que me deixou muito satisfeito e pronto para começar o dia de bom humor.
No geral, é um local tranquilo e confortável, com uma vista para o mar que é um bónus, e um pequeno-almoço bem pensado. Recomendo vivamente, seja para umas férias relaxantes ou para um bom descanso. Não queria ir embora depois de ficar aqui, a relação custo-benefício e a experiência foram excelentes.

Great hospitality and service throughout my stay in Penang Amari Spice Hotel. Upon arrival, the reception team kindly upgraded me to a Premier King room without any request, which was a wonderful surprise. The room was spacious, clean, well-maintained, and had a pleasant scent—everything was excellent.
I would like to express my utmost appreciation to the midnight team on 21/03/2026. During our stay, my friend suddenly fell seriously ill during midnight . We attempted to call emergency services (999), but unfortunately were unable to get through to the nearby general hospital immediately. The situation was critical, and waiting another 10–20 minutes could have put my friend’s life at risk.
Thankfully, the Penang Amari hotel team acted swiftly and professionally. They followed up with us, and the female manager along with the guy management team arrived promptly to assess the situation. They provided immediate support and helped arrange transportation to the nearest hospital, ensuring we arrived within 10 minutes.
Thanks to their quick response and care, my friend’s life was saved. And even after check out they still texting us to concern on the guest safety. We are deeply grateful for their kindness, efficiency, and dedication during such a critical moment.
Wishing the entire team continued success and all the very best. Thank you once again for going above and beyond. Peharps this able to fully credit to the team.

This is my second time staying here. As always every thing is perfect. They allowed us to have an early check in since the room was ready early. From check in to check out time everything was smooth. Luckily we were able to see again our favourite staff Ady but this time we saw many new faces. Thank you Ady for wonderful service again. Not forgetting Joshua as the Front Office Ambassador and the Duty Manager i forgot his name though. The housekeeping also maintained their good service to ensure our room condition was perfect. Kudos to Harun for the great work! And also thank you for the maintenance staff Rahim for assisting me to get better wifi connection. Please maintain what you all doing!

Good stay at Jazz Hotel Penang 👍
Really satisfied with my trip here. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable, with a bathtub and even a complimentary bath bomb which made the stay extra relaxing. Love the rooftop pool and the overall modern vibe.
Location is convenient — walking distance to Straits Quay and easy access to Gurney area for food. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout the stay.
Overall a pleasant experience, will definitely come back again!

Pro: Within 3km radius of a lot of must eat places. Free Car park available. The reception was pretty responsive on whatsapp during my stay. Affordable. Spacious. Free Nespresso capsules! Speedy check out. Stunning night view from the living room balcony. I can see sun rise while seated in the dining chair in the morning and sunset is available through the kitchen window.
Cons: Gym is still under renovation. The swimming pool is small. No microwave oven. The only mirrors available are in the 2 baths. We're a family of 5 but there were only exactly 4 dining chairs, cutleries, bowls, plates and cups. No cabinets for clothes in bedrooms, only a coat stand and hangers.
Paid deposit by cash so I got the cash back exactly after check out. I'd they don't increase price, I'll definitely be back. The place is just too comfortable🤩

Overall is nice and new hotel, I love the hidden gem beach. just a little bit noisy from outside, i can heard the motor sound at night,soundproof need to be ungrade and the spoon in the room got a stain, quite disgusting.

Ssj91this hotel is good overall, but when we arrived, they told us that we didn't have a booking with them and they couldn't locate our booking and details. the room was also said to be taken, and they are waiting for a cancellation in order to get our room. There is a lot of confusion among staff. some visitors were told to leave their rooms once they have entered. we waiting 1 hr 30 min to get our room. so check in was at 4.30pm. parking was also very inconvenient, as we had to park at the basement, which was impossible to even get one if you came into the hotel late and a T&G card was also needed to get validated before leaving the hotel if we wanted a free spot. Room was very spacious and clean. the tea and coffee was hard like its never been changed.

GGuest UserThe check-in process took an excessively long time, with waiting times exceeding one hour due to the large crowd. The hotel management should consider improving the check-in procedure to ensure guests do not have to wait for such an extended period.
In addition, the check-out time of 11:00 a.m. is quite early, and the hotel was unable to provide any flexibility for a slightly later check-out, despite guests having to endure a lengthy wait during check-in.
Furthermore, we found a rove beetle (commonly known as “Charlie ant”) in our hotel room, which raised concerns regarding room cleanliness and guest comfort.
Overall, we hope the hotel will take these matters into consideration and make improvements to enhance the guest experience.

GGuest UserThe hotel was near to eateries and some malls but the malls are not the ‘high end’ type. Almost all the food options in the mall are Muslim friendly.
Hotel service was good but we didn’t make use of their facilities such as the swimming pool and gym.
The breakfast buffet was not really fantastic as the food is almost the same daily and not very tasty.. quite disappointing for a 4-star hotel under Shangri-La group.
The room is quite spacious but toilet is a bit small.
Water pressure from toilet bowl flushing was strong and noisy and water will start splashing around if we don’t close the toilet seat.
The journey to hotel from airport is about 25-30 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
Overall I would suggest staying at Gurney area instead of this area as the food options are better at Gurney.

Although the hotel sits close to the lively Lebuh Chulia, it is cleverly tucked away along Leith Street. Chulia Street is a hub for backpackers and nightlife, so evenings can get noisy. By setting itself slightly inward, Loop on Leith neatly avoids the brunt of street noise, while still placing you just a four-minute walk from the iconic Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion), where you can easily begin your street food adventure.
Its positioning works as an ideal base for urban exploration. Head north and you’ll find the refined charm of the heritage district; head south and you step straight into the vibrant pulse of the city center.
The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range.
Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.”
At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive.
It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors.
If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market.
For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.

KKepulifunichahanyuThis was my first solo trip abroad, and I chose Penang, a city known for its overseas Chinese community and abundant durians. About 70% of the population here is Chinese, mostly originating from Chaoshan and Fujian, which gives it a strong Southern Min and Chaoshan vibe, much like Thailand in the movie 'The Letter to A-ma'.
The Eastern & Oriental Hotel (E&O) in Penang, along with Singapore's Raffles and Angkor's Raffles, is considered one of the world's three grand heritage hotels. Established in 1885, it has hosted many celebrities, so it was a must-experience for me.
The hotel is divided into two parts: the Heritage Wing, which is the original older building, and the Victory Annexe, a high-rise built just over a decade ago. To experience the authentic charm, choose the Heritage Wing. If you prefer better sea views and relatively newer facilities, the Victory Annexe might be a better option. However, the hotel's most iconic pool is exclusively accessible to guests staying in the Heritage Wing.
When I was researching the hotel, I read some rumors about the Heritage Wing being a bit spooky. Perhaps it's due to its age; such tales are not uncommon in old hotels. But objectively, the Heritage Wing maintains its overall character beautifully. From the preserved first elevator in Malaysia located in the lobby to the various artworks displayed in the corridors, and even the doormen in old colonial-era uniforms, everything conveys the ambiance of the South Seas from a century ago.
Three positives: First, the E&O is probably the closest hotel to the sea in Penang. Taking a walk by the ocean in the evening or early morning sounds wonderful, even if Penang's sea isn't particularly spectacular. Second, guests in the Heritage Wing receive a complimentary bottle of red wine, and all snacks and treats in the room are free. Additionally, the Char Kway Teow at Palm Court for breakfast in the Heritage Wing is incredibly flavorful – I think it's even better than many so-called Michelin-starred dishes. Third, sitting by the window in the morning, watching the sunrise and the coast, was quite therapeutic.
As for negatives, overall, the hotel's service felt a bit indifferent. Compared to other places in Southeast Asia, there was a certain aloofness. This might, of course, be a remnant of its early British hotel traditions.

JJoetan39We stayed in Ansgana wing one bedroom suite. It's born with a magnificent Seaview but unfortunately obscured by the hotel layout like the balcony concrete egde at living room and the missing of curtain binder to gain 5-10% of Seaview. The sofa and TV are setup by the window side both at the living room and bed room but during day time the sunshine is so strong that you have to draw the curtain if you want to watch TV but at the same time your completely lose the view. The breakfast buffet offered were standard and I have no comment but the only obervation is the crows are the only diehard fans of the hotel food as they tried their best effort to grab the food from the table even in front of the guests! The only element that made our stay a good one is the hotel staff. Starting from Cika who handled our check in, our room attendant Masum, the big and tall guy at the buffet restaurant and also the lady who took care of our check out. All of them were efficient and effectively attending and responding to guests needs and tried their best effort to help us during our stay and kindly send my compliment to them especially Masum. Thank you Masum you deserves to be praised. Well done! Ansgana management in reading it's your team that saved your position that still got a 5 points except the food! In conclusion Ansgana tried to pack herself as a resort but quite unsuccessful as after check out we headed to Shangri-La Rasa Sayang and you will experience the layback and relax feel in a resort!

AAnonymous UserIf you want convenience to good food such as Burung Hantu Nasi Lemak or Chowrasta Market for wonderful local food, then you should stay at St Giles.
The room was airy and clean. Pillows were great as we slept well. The only flaw was the mini fridge wasn’t clean but generally a good stay for four days. Staff was also helpful and we also loaned an umbrella from the concierge. Free parking for those who intend to drive.

GGuest UserThe location is good, but the hotel itself is quite basic and a bit dirty and messy. The fridge in our room was also broken. One of the front desk staff (who looked Chinese, but wasn't) was quite rude.
The parking situation is a bit confusing. The day before yesterday, the front desk told us we only needed to pay RM5 once, and then parking would be free afterwards (we'd need to go to the front desk to wave off the charges). However, the next day, a different front desk staff member said it was ”RM5 for the first entry/exit each time.” So, we have no idea how they actually charge for parking; their policy is very confusing. It feels like none of the staff know what they're doing. And charging tourists RM5 for each entry/exit is quite unreasonable, isn't it? When you're on vacation, don't you go in and out of the hotel frequently? Do you really think charging RM5 every single time is reasonable? Charging once a day would be acceptable, but this seems like they're just desperate for money.

RRay Mak Hon KitWe stayed two nights at Summer Tree Hotel Penang during our trip to Penang.
One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was its location — right in the heart of Georgetown near Komtar, which makes it very convenient for getting around. It also offers parking, which is a big plus in this area. Another reason was the late check-in option, as I was having dinner with a friend in Nibong Tebal, which is quite a distance away. The pricing was also reasonable, making it an attractive choice overall.
Upon arrival, however, parking was already full. I had to park at a space right in front of the hotel where delivery trucks usually arrive in the morning. This made me slightly anxious, as I was worried I might be asked to move my car early the next day.
The lobby is simple but modern, with a creative, slightly hipster and artistic vibe — almost like a small modern art space. There are vending machines offering snacks, drinks, and essentials for travelers. At the back, there are toilets and also a laundry area with washing machines. A small coffee corner and even an old-school arcade game machine add a nice nostalgic touch, which was a pleasant surprise.
However, the room itself was quite disappointing.
While the room is basic and small — which I don’t mind — the flooring under the carpet felt severely damaged. Walking on it felt uneven and almost “soft,” as if the ground beneath had deteriorated. It gave a very uncomfortable and unsettling feeling, possibly due to moisture or termite damage underneath.
Another concern was the bathroom design. There is an elevated step at the entrance, which becomes a clear trip hazard. I actually tripped once when entering. Even after that, I had to be very cautious because the floor just outside the bathroom is extremely slippery. Every entry and exit required full attention.
There is also no proper shelf or platform inside the shower area to place shampoo or shower gel. We had to repeatedly open and close the glass door just to access toiletries during showering, which was inconvenient. Only basic amenities like shower gel and liquid hand soap were provided.
The room was also advertised with a decent view, but the window was covered with a mesh, and since we were on the first floor, there was very little to see.
On the positive side, the water dispenser outside the room was very convenient.
The next day, parking was still full, so we had to park at a private area nearby. Since it was raining, the walk back to the hotel was quite inconvenient as well.
Overall, while the location and concept of the hotel are strong, the room condition and safety design issues need serious attention. I would strongly recommend replacing the carpet flooring with vinyl wood flooring for durability and hygiene. As for the bathroom layout, improvements may be limited due to structure, but safety enhancements like anti-slip flooring would make a big difference.
