"Spacious and oxygenated family room. Comfy and large double beds. A bit outdated bathroom. I thought I had booked a Mountain View side bedroom. Technically there was a mountain but the room was parking and street side so we had some street noise at night and morning. Make sure you book a room valley side. The staff was helpful, patient and helped us plan our day! Big perks: although it is a 20 minutes walk on a large road (sometimes without sidewalk) you can walk back to the hotel from the city. Huge traffic jam during October holidays that makes it impossible to take a taxi. The hikes close by were the best we ever did in China. The children were on horses while we walked by their sides. We bought oxygen bottles and sparsely used them. It was nice though and reassuring with children to sleep with oxygen in the room."

During our entire trip from Chengdu until arriving here, this was the first time we met a host who spoke excellent English. She was incredibly kind, patient, and caring. Her husband even drove us around after our original booking was already completed. For the next day, I had booked another hotel. Although the room rate was higher, their conditions were unreasonable, and they even refused to provide transportation. Because we are not familiar with the local language, the owner of ShanShangShan Hotel and her husband went out of their way to help us and communicate on our behalf. In the end, ShanShangShan was the one who took care of us and gave us a ride. Now, as I am lying in another hotel writing this review, I truly regret not staying longer at ShanShangShan. The food here was also delicious, and the chef was extremely friendly and lovely. We felt incredibly comfortable, happy, and relaxed during our stay. "This hotel is literally on a cliff! We wound our way up from the foot of the mountain to the summit, reaching an altitude of about 3300 meters. The rooms have oxygen supply, so altitude sickness wasn't too bad, though it varies from person to person. The 'golden mountain' (sunlight hitting the peak) appeared around a few minutes past 6 PM (late November). The yak hotpot at the restaurant was delicious (maybe we were just really hungry). Breakfast didn't have many options, but everything tasted great, and the kids were able to get their fill. The biscuits at afternoon tea were tasty, but I personally didn't care for the salty butter tea. After checking out at noon, we headed to the nearby Jiajin Mountain Pass. If you plan on climbing the snowy peaks, make sure to prepare your gear in advance. The snow at the summit was rock-hard and very slippery. Safety first!"
