"Thank you for providing an all-in-one environment for busy professionals like me. A place where I can work, meeting old friends, and at the same time allow my 3 boys to enjoy themselves safely. The availability of both a swimming pool and a small beach, with lifeguards on duty, gave me peace of mind throughout the day. the room was also clean and convinient for us also to enjoy beautiful morning sunrise. I was able to continue my work comfortably, spending time reading and writing on my laptop by the pool, surrounded by beautiful seaside scenery while watching my son playing. The experience was further enhanced by the availability of good food at the restaurant despite busy with customer, waitress e.g Ms Shamira and all were very helpful. Added with relaxing drinks in the evening while listening to live band performances, and quiet moments of healing by the beach, resting on the sofa with the sound of the sea. The staff were friendly and helpful, e.g Mr Alex and the team, who made our stay even more pleasant. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to come again."

"Our recent stay at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru was truly magical. We were visiting to celebrate two very special milestones: our 5th wedding anniversary and our youngest daughter’s 1st birthday. Before our arrival, I reached out to the resort to share our situation, hoping for a smooth stay with two young children. Ezmareena Ismail (Nurish) responded promptly, ensuring that the resort was well aware of our needs. Upon check-in, a gentleman named Jordan (if I recall correctly) went above and beyond by upgrading our room to better accommodate the extra bed we requested for the kids. The surprises didn't stop there. When we entered the room, we were deeply moved to find a thoughtful letter and beautiful flowers prepared by the staff to celebrate our anniversary. It was a heartwarming gesture that made us feel truly valued. Throughout our stay, Melania kept in constant touch via text messages to ensure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. Thanks to the incredible staff and their genuine hospitality, our family had a blissful and memorable holiday. I cannot recommend Shangri-La Tanjung Aru enough for anyone looking for an exceptional experience. We are so grateful for the wonderful memories!"

"It was a very good experience. The rooms is clean and modern, the pillow is comfort, bathroom is so spcious, plus welcome drinks in the fridge once checked in. The staffs are always friendly and responsive. Lobby is well decorated, cozy feels like home with touch of artistic design. Surrounding is convenient, there are lots of choice of food, Chagee, 24hr convenience shop are downstair. Only 10-15mins drive to take speedboat to pulau. Only parking is about rm30 per day. No free parking."

"The hotel's central location was fantastic for getting to shopping malls, the port, and the airport. As it was a suite, they replenished the bottled water daily—I think it was 6 bottles—which was great as I didn't need to buy any. The bathtub was perfect for unwinding after a day of travel, and the staff's response was excellent. When the air conditioner broke down late at night, they arrived within 5 minutes of my call and fixed it right away. The only downside was the breakfast; it wasn't great (even the lounge breakfast felt like a scaled-down version of the regular one, with not much to eat), so I skipped it a few times."

"I had an amazing experience staying at a five-star hotel. The service was exceptional from the moment I arrived. The staff were very friendly, professional, and always ready to help. "This Hostel has a lot of potential, the beds were nice enough, but with visible wear & tear in the rooms, stained curtains/crumbling paint work. The bathrooms were nice enough, although soaps & shower gels were not topped up during my stay. After inquiring about the laundry room which is highly advertised, I was informed it’s broken, then entire room… which was one of the main appeals to me. On the plus side, a lovely rooftop bar, and a good restaurant serving well priced and tasty meals. With a little TLC this hostel could be fantastic."

"Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu is probably the best place to stay in the entire city, not just for the rooms, but for everything else as well. The hotel is modern, very clean, and the service attitude from every single staff member is outstanding, from check-in to housekeeping to restaurant and bar teams. The pool and views on the 23rd floor are amazing, and the gym, while slightly small, has a really nice mountain view. Breakfast offers a great variety, and à la carte options are included at no extra cost, which is a big plus. The bar is excellent, especially during happy hour with buy-one-get-one-free deals on selected drinks. Honestly, the hotel was so comfortable that we barely wanted to leave, even just for a walk outside. Special thanks to Natalie at check-in, who was incredibly friendly, patient, and welcoming. She even upgraded us from a city-view room to a mountain-view room, which made the stay even more special. At the bar, Alvin was tirelessly explaining the menu and drinks to us, and Yus always greeted us with a warm smile and provided great service, they truly made the experience memorable. If I ever come back to Kota Kinabalu, this would 100% be my place to stay again."

Families, promise me you'll book this terrace room, okay?!!! Walking into the room and pulling back the curtains to reveal the sea view made every long flight worth it. All the hotel staff were incredibly warm and attentive, always smiling. The room was clean and tidy, and entering it felt cool and smelled lovely. Opening the windows in the evening to watch the sunset was truly relaxing and delightful; it really set the vacation mood! The welcome fruit, especially the apple, was so delicious – sweet, tangy, and crisp (I honestly never liked apples back home). The breakfast selection was also very rich, and the taste was quite good. Remember to try the iced freshly squeezed orange juice outside the door! 💕

The water in the hotel's area is heavily polluted; it's so dirty that snorkeling is completely out of the question! The front desk staff were very perfunctory with guest requests and didn't follow through on promises. In the morning, we requested a private boat tour for island hopping and snorkeling. We discussed the time and itinerary with the dive center staff and finalized the price with the front desk. We even altered our subsequent travel plans for this. However, by 4 PM, we still hadn't received confirmation. When we called the front desk, they told us they couldn't arrange it. We asked several people, and got different explanations: first they said there were no boats, then that other guests had already been arranged for island hopping, and then that there would be a storm the next day (which turned out to be perfectly calm). I suggest the hotel improve its island hopping service. For those looking to dive, definitely don't consider this hotel! Also, the beach is incredibly tiny, barely palm-sized!

The location is super close to the ferry terminal. Downstairs, right across the street, there's a KFC, Starbucks, and 7-Eleven, which is really convenient. The front desk staff were very patient. The only drawback is that the room is a bit old-fashioned. However, the hotel's exterior looks upscale and grand.

Back again after a year and honestly, it felt like coming home to a little slice of paradise. I didn’t realize I missed this much. From the moment we arrived, everything just clicked. Huge shoutout to Hurin, Ying, Alam, and Jenny for remembering me (still impressed!) and for the kind of welcome that makes you feel like more than just a guest. Every greeting came with warm smiles and genuine conversations, it’s those little moments that stay with you. Rachel also deserves a special mention for her attentiveness and thoughtful assistance throughout our stay. And that photo frame? Such a heartfelt touch, we’re definitely keeping that forever. What I love most about this place is the peacefulness. It’s the kind of quiet that lets you actually breathe, slow down, and just be. And the farewell at the dock still touches my heart, somehow making goodbye the hardest part every single time. If there’s one small note for management, it would be to consider upgrading the shower amenities and toiletries to something more premium to better match the overall experience and pricing. That said, it doesn’t take away from how special this place is to me. Already looking forward to my next visit. See you again soon.

Many of the positive reviews for this place are likely influenced by the free coconut water offered for writing a review upon check-out. Without any incentives, I'll honestly share my experience. 1. **Pros:** The water quality around Mantanani Island is excellent, and the snorkeling and diving offer stunning views. The staff are friendly, and the island scenery is definitely worth experiencing. 2. **Cons:** The island is swarming with tour groups, and there's a constant stream of elderly people and children, so it's not ideal if you're looking for a peaceful atmosphere. We stayed for three nights, paying over 4,000, and were assigned room 27, which was right next to the staff dormitory. The facilities in the room were very old. Additionally, the adjacent room housed different tour guides every day, and we couldn't see the sea at all from our room. For independent travelers paying this price, getting a room like this is truly unsatisfactory.

Pros: - Friendly and helpful staff. - Compatible with shower filter use. - Facilities are a bit dated, but luxurious and clean. - Great value-for-money services (golf, tours, breakfast, laundry). - Thoughtful touches placed around the resort: bug spray, Tiger Balm, aloe vera, and drinking water. - Beautiful natural environment within the resort. - A wide variety of activities and programs (buggy tours, surfing, snorkeling, traditional dance shows, bird watching, horseback riding, etc.). Cons: - Far from the city center; it takes at least 30 to 50 minutes to get there. - Non-buffet restaurants are mediocre in terms of taste, service, and portion size relative to the price. - Ocean Wing >>> Garden Wing. Well worth the extra investment for better water quality and fewer issues with bugs and pest control. - There is a private beach, but it's not ideal for swimming or sunbathing. There is plastic litter in places and the seawater is murky. However, you can still have a wonderful vacation experience with a friendly crew at a reasonable price, so I would definitely visit again. I strongly recommend bringing a shower filter—I've included a photo of what the filter looked like after just one use.

Location is strategic , rooms are big enough.Aircon is good and cool enough. Overall ok just have some weaknesses for example the cleanliness. A lot of ants on table. Washing machine not functioning. Hair dryer got sparks when turn on Car park provided.

I stayed only for a night between my island stays to experience the city vibe. The location is very convenient for the markets and Gaya Street eateries. The room was spacious, very clean, accommodating and quiet. The bed was comfortable. The staff were very kind and friendly, with good recommendations for real local restaurants. Super nice staff with extra kindness by Eza and Jason. Thank you very much.

We were upgraded to a Deluxe Suite, which was a lovely surprise! We’re not sure if it was because the hotel wasn’t able to prepare our original room on time or for another reason, but either way, we’re very grateful and thankful for the upgrade. I booked two different rooms under two separate bookings, so unfortunately, we didn’t get both rooms on the same level—one was on Level 6 and the other was on Level 14. But it wasn’t a big issue for us, and we still enjoyed our stay. The unit was spacious, although the hotel does look a little dated. That said, everything was working perfectly fine—the air conditioning, TV, iron, hairdryer, etc. Considering the price, I think it was reasonable and good value for money. The breakfast was okay as well. There could probably be more variety, but for a simple breakfast, it was perfectly fine.

We booked a room that was renovated in 2025, so it was very new. It was on the first floor and had a garden. The hotel breakfast wasn't great, but the hotel itself was massive and very quiet, like a hidden paradise. It was incredibly relaxing, and we even saw some small animals and kittens occasionally. The hotel also has a spa, which I highly recommend. The ambiance and music were super therapeutic, and the masseuses had excellent techniques. I'd definitely consider this hotel again for my next trip to Kota Kinabalu. It's about a 40-minute drive from the city center, and a taxi costs around 35-50 Malaysian Ringgit.
