"An attractive hotel in a former imperial complex (a library or something like that) offering large, clean rooms. It's up on the side of a hill but taxis/rideshare will take you to the front door. Also it's very close to the town center and is a short ride to the temples that are of interest in Chengde. They have a decent breakfast at the onsite restaurant, and a dinner service featuring local dishes that are supposed to be similar to what an emperor might have eaten. So you can dine like an emperor, for a fee. The large deer roaming the grounds stare at your with the big, sad eyes, obviously looking for a handout, but don't fall for it as there's plenty of grass. There was some construction going on, seems the buildings are being refurbished, but it did not really interfere with our stay. Signs in English and English-speaking staff at the front desk."

"I stayed at this hotel while visiting Hetou Old Street. The environment was clean and odorless. There was also a hot water dispenser with a constant supply of hot water. "Our third stay (the same room) here, still great but I noticed some downgrades. First they changed the toiletries, before they used l'occitane now they use an unknown for me brand. "So glad I chose Yaoji Caotang! The staff were incredibly welcoming; they helped us with our luggage as soon as we arrived. The front desk even gave us complimentary tickets for Hetou Old Street, boat tickets, and vouchers for desserts and drinks. Our room was also fantastic – not huge, but very well-designed, cozy, and with an amazing large balcony. A special shout-out to the breakfast – it was superb! It was a case of quality over quantity, unlike some five-star hotels that offer a huge variety but use cheap ingredients, making most of it inedible. Yaoji Caotang's breakfast was truly exquisite; everything was prepared with great care. Plus, staff would periodically come by each table to offer fruit, chestnuts, and ice cream... It really made me appreciate that you get what you pay for: top-notch service, excellent rooms, and premium ingredients. The whole experience was just perfect! If I ever get the chance to visit Hetou Old Street again, I definitely wouldn't hesitate to stay at Yaoji Caotang!"
