I picked this hotel in Esperanza hoping it would be more quiet than guest rooms above restaurants/bars along the malecon *****, as well as being adults only. Cars still drove by around the corner blaring loud music, but not terribly late. Roosters announce the sunrise, but we didn't notice while using white noise. Our Esquina (corner) room was serviceable and had an industrial concrete feel which matches the description and photos online. We were not able to select a room with an ocean view but had one tiny corner of the balcony where you could see water if you squinted. The better view was from the roof where we enjoyed live music one evening, and the hot tub to ourselves later that night. Towels and beach chairs to borrow were a nice touch, which we used daily. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant, instead tried a different place along the boardwalk each of 3 nights. We were not able to take advantage of morning coffee: it did not open until 8am and we were already gone for the day to our activities by then. A Keurig in the room to make tea would have been appreciated. The bathroom was very small: there was a half door on the shower and water would go all over the floor. Water temperature was unpredictable; they even had to provide notes on how to get hot water for the shower. We rented a car for our stay; the hotel does not have a parking lot, but there is a public dirt parking lot directly across the street that had plenty of available parking every day. Overall I was mostly satisfied with this funky-looking hotel as a base for our activities on beautiful Vieques.

Hacienda Tamarindo

Our visit in mid-March was our fourth to Vieques over several years, our first to Hacienda Tamarindo, and our best yet. We have always loved the island and enjoyed the places we have stayed (guesthouses), but everything about Hacienda Tamarindo makes it now our clear favorite. After researching places to stay again, I called HT and though the week we wanted was mostly booked, the staff was patient, creative and friendly finding us rooms which were splendidly comfortable and with beautiful views. I'd been unsuccessful finding a rental car for that busy week, but on our arrival, Maira found us a perfect rental car, at Maritza's no less, which made a huge difference to our enjoyment of the week. Throughout the week the staff was wonderfully helpful in many small important ways, Caritza, Elba, the maintenance staff and of course the kitchen staff. Breakfast was as convenient, congenial and delicious as everyone reports. It's a beautiful place! We'll be back next March.

Casa de Tortuga Guesthouse

We adored Casa De Tortuga and had an awesome stay in Esperanza. Our kids (4+6) loved the roosters, chickens, horses, cats, and dogs wandering the neighborhood. And they absolutely adored Skip who showed them his fruit trees and let them pick mangos, star fruit and pomegranate -- so cool. It was a perfect base camp for exploring the island. We loved having 2 bedrooms and a little kitchenette to make quick picnics for the beach. It's easily walkable to the heart of Esperanza (even for our 4 year old). We wish we would have stayed another night instead of going to Fajardo. TIP: The neighborhood roosters take their job very seriously and the cockadoodledoo-ing starts at about 5:30am. Our kids sleep with a sound machine so they weren't bothered. After the first night, we got wise and turn on ”Ocean Sounds” on our phone to drown them out a bit and get another hour of sleep!
Sea Gate Hotel

This hotel near Isabel Segunda on Vieques is a gem. If you don't need luxury, consider it. Penny and Kelly, who own it and run it, are very friendly and knowledgeable and give it a B&B feel. It is close enough to Isabel Segunda so that you can easily walk there. Each room has a bedroom, kitchenette/living room and bathroom, all spacious, clean, modern and pest-free. Plus, each room has a huge, covered, semi-private veranda on a hillside overlooking a horse paddock, greenery with iguanas, and a view of the ocean in the distance. The hotel offers a breakfast with a number of options including fresh fruit; you can feed the mango and other peels to the horses. Or, you can eat in your room or walk into town for breakfast. There are two possible downsides. First, there is no elevator, so you will need to walk up some flights of stairs between your room and the ground level where the office and parking are. Second, there are dozens of roosters nearby that start crowing at 4:30 or 5:00 am and continue until dusk. When we wanted to sleep, we dealt with this by using the ear plugs the hotel provided, closing the bedroom windows, and running the A/C. This minimized the noise. In sum, we love the place and would go back there in a minute.
The Vieques Guesthouse

Beautiful place! The guesthouse was very clean, peaceful and in a great location just a few minutes from a beach. The room was lovely and the place has an amazing rooftop deck and balcony to hang out on. The breakfast was delicious and the guesthouse even had beach chairs and towels we could use. The owners were extremely kind and knowledgeable in terms of the area and helping us figure out the best places to eat/visit. We loved our stay and would highly recommend it!
