Sterling Hotel

I stayed at the hotel for a wedding hosted by Wedgewood. This is a review of the hotel only. TERRIBLE experience. No staff. No care for the facilities or the guests. Literally one person who sits in a caged room from 8am to 4 pm. The hotel states the following in a confirmation email,"Our reduced on-site staff reflects our approach to operating more like an Airbnb, allowing you to enjoy a more private and independent stay." Translation: we couldn't care at all about customer service or, in fact, the hotel. I stayed for three nights...no maid service, no refilling of the minimal snack bar. Dirty glasses left on the one table on the porch from 3 nights prior (they were still there when I left this morning). Piles of trash left behind the bar in the lounge. A can of spray carpet cleaner left on the table in the hallway outside of my room. And (why not?) absolutely no hot water in the shower. Does that sound "more like an Airbnb" or a management group that just doesn't care? This is the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. There is also absolutely no attention to any care or detail. The facilities themselves are fine, but given the apparently lack of any care, that will not last long. A terrible choice. Would absolutely never return.

It was cute, interesting and nostalgic to stay here…. However the decor was very aged, the bathroom definitely needs an update, the jet tub is so 1990… it took up so much of the bathroom it was hard to sit on the toilet…. There were obvious roof leaks leaving huge stains in the ceiling. I get it, it’s old, but at least so repairing should be done.

Quite dated. Front desk receptionists friendly and helpful. Great snacks. Downside, the faucet on sink was strange as it is very close to the rim of sink and backs onto the sink ledge. Toilet handle took some adjustments to get it to work. It was hard to see all the wasted water for a shower waiting for it to warm up. I never had to employ the cold water and settled for a luke cold/warm shower. Even after waiting for 5 minutes, the water was not warm. Within a 5 minute walk to the SAFE credit union convention center.

Worst experience I had at a hotel, the lights would not turn off so they were on all night. Barely got 2 hours a sleep and book a hotel with my wife to get a good night sleep did not get that. I complained the supervisor was supposed to call me back and he never did.

I do not recommend booking this place. Where to start?! This hotel could be so great, but it isn’t. Every space needs a deep clean. The exterior needs to be power washed. The only outdoor hang-out space had a janky little furniture set that was covered in a thick layer of dust. The chandelier in our room turned off and on of its own volition at 4am. We finally had to unscrew all the lightbulbs to get it to stop. Good thing we’re tall and could reach it while standing on a chair because they didn’t answer the emergency phone line. They gave us a 5% discount for our trouble. 🙄 Our room with two queens came with two towels that were not replenished over the course of our two-night stay. The room, 211, was massive, but sp****ly furnished with a ridiculously small tv. We had booked a king room, but because the hotel was full there was no option to change. The innkeeper sits behind bars, like a prisoner, and was watching a cops-style show on her phone while she checked us in. I guess it was part of a theme. Overall, the details are lacking; for instance the closet had a hodgepodge assortment of hangers- some wire, some plastic - all looked like they’d been left by previous guests. I would have liked blackout curtains - the ones in our room were literally shredded. Our friends in 204 didn’t have ac for their entire stay and received a 15% discount, but to my mind their room should have been comped. It was sweltering. They charge too much for this lack of attention. As noted on other reviews, parking is an issue. Don’t count on the coffee and snacks in the morning. It’s a sad assortment. There are no fridges in the rooms or creamers for the in-room coffee maker. Wish I’d read reviews before booking the rooms for a wedding we attended downstairs. This hotel is riding the coattails of the wedding business.

Booked this place for my birthday and I don’t think I’ll be staying here again. I was drawn in by the vintage charm but now that I’m here I would trade in the aesthetic for some up to date amenities. All of the faucets are off centered and leaking. There was a thick layer of gritty cleaning product on the bottom of the bathtub that stuck to my feet so I couldn’t use the huge tub with jets. I considered cleaning it myself for a minute but then why am I paying to stay in a hotel? The furniture is mismatched and broken with a small fridge on the floor and a tiny television. The carpet is coming loose in one corner etc. The staff also leaves at 4:30 so if you need anything..? This place has good reviews so maybe my room just ******.

Room 300 has a great view of the corner street location. We did shower or bath as the tub looked like it would leak at various locations. It was also dirty with grime. Not sure the last time it was ever cleaned. The bathroom sink was also cracked. We had o adjust the toilet a few times as it would continually run water. The room and bed were great.

Wonderful stay! Walking distance to down town. Lovely room and building. Definitely recommending.
