Hotéis Mountain view em Takayama

We really loved the onsen. It’s located in a beautiful setting but you need to take a bit of a drive from Takayama to get there. Each men’s and women’s onsen has 2 baths, one hot one indoors and one cooler one outdoors. We liked both as you can get a nice breeze sitting outside. The bathrooms in each room are a bit dated but it’s clean. The food was exceptional, but come with a big appetite because it’s a lot of food. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed our stay.

Ryokan muito convenientemente localizado. Estacionamento gratuito no local e próximo à parada de ônibus para Kamikochi. Você não pode dirigir até Kamikochi, então o ônibus é a principal forma de entrada. O quarto em si é antigo, mas espaçoso, limpo e em pleno funcionamento. Não há vista da fonte termal natural do hotel, mas há uma seção interna e externa. As instalações não estavam lotadas quando estávamos lá. O jantar e café da manhã fornecidos foram maravilhosos. Que festa. No geral, ótima experiência.

Remote location but near to shinhotake ropeway. Very quaint hotel. We stayed in a Japanese room. We did not have dinner in hotel and have to step out when they make the bed for the evening. We were told we can stay in the room but felt that we got in the way. They were very efficient and it was done in under 15mins. The hotel was small and there were 2 different wings. It’s a bit troublesome to take 2 diff lifts to go to dining area/bath. Front desk was earnest but non english speaking. The outdoor baths were really nice. You have to take a small single cabin inclined elevator that you operate on your own to get there. Otherwise a short climb/ stairs. Breakfast was splendid and one of the best we had experienced during our trip. Ingredients were fresh and the portions were just nice.

This was such a lovely place to stay. The room was nice and spacious, allowing us to feel at home. Not only were we taken care of by means of beautiful breakfast and dinner, but the staff were extremely helpful when we talked to them about hiking in Kamokochi. I would highly recommend booking this place especially with a meal plan, since it was nice to have food sorted after Hiking all day.

The old lady works in the onsen is really nice she even taught me how to enter it with proper way and prepare me small towel. She is just like my grandma who always take care of me from the moment I enter and go out. Dinner is great, mixed onsen is a plus. Huge room. The bed is made when we got back from dinner.

This has to be highlight of my Japan trip. The location is exactly where you wish to be if you’re looking to be surrounded by mountains and the outdoor onsen sitting inside in it just make its worthwhile. Also I have to give shout out to Tangerina (I think thats her name) she was just lovely to talk and randomly asked her the fastest way to reach Fujikawaguchiko the next day as it was my next stop and she was giving her 100% to get me detailed information which really helped me in my journey. So yeah if you’re looking this post you’re me and my wife star. Arigato 💙

Our stay at Ryokan Gizan was a truly memorable experience. This is a traditionally built and decorated Japanese ryokan, with tatami floors, sliding doors, and an authentic atmosphere that makes you feel fully immersed in Japanese culture. It’s definitely a “must-visit” if you’re looking to experience traditional Japanese accommodation — even a short stay of 2–3 nights is enough to make it special. The ryokan is quite old, which actually adds to its authentic charm, though it might feel a bit less comfortable for more demanding guests. That said, it’s very well maintained and everything is clean and thoughtfully arranged. The onsen facilities were excellent — one public bath and four private ones that you can use freely. After long days of exploring, it was a real treat. We highly recommend booking with the traditional dinner included. The meals were a highlight: we had Yakiniku the first night and Shabu-shabu the second, both featuring fresh, generous portions of delicious food. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese set — beautifully presented and made with care, though not quite to our personal taste. The location is stunning — surrounded by mountains, rivers, and blossoming trees. It feels peaceful and remote. Just note that amenities like ATMs or grocery stores are limited nearby. However, it’s well connected by bus (just a 3-minute walk from the ryokan), which can take you to Kamikochi or the terminals at Takayama and Hirayu Onsen. Buses run about once an hour, so it’s quite manageable. Overall, a fantastic stay — relaxing, unique, and highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a more traditional and scenic side of Japan.

The room is large and has air conditioning, so we didn't feel cold even though the temperature was -16 degrees Celsius that night. Since the area is remote and it's not convenient to go out for meals, it's best to check in at dusk and enjoy the dinner provided here. The dinner here is quite large and can fill you up.
