The desert camping hotel of the proprietress of Shapotou, Zhongwei is one of the newest hotels in Zhongwei, having been renovated in 2026. With Zhongwei Railway Station just 1km away and Zhongwei Shapotou Airport only 7km away, transportation is very convenient. There is no shortage of things to see in the area, with the Zhongwei Drum Tower, Tengger Desert Starry International Desert Camping Site and Xiangyang Street Night Market all nearby. When guests have some time on their hands they can make use of the onsite facilities. This Zhongwei hotel offers parking on site. According to our guests, this hotel provides a very high level of service. This hotel is particularly popular with those traveling with friends.

The Zhongwei Shapo Tou Desert Wilderness Desert Stargazing Inn is one of the newest hotels in Zhongwei, having opened in 2023. Traveling to the hotel is easy with Shapotou Railway Station located approximately 9km away and Zhongwei Shapotou Airport roughly 13km away. With multiple attractions nearby including Zhongwei Xi'an Luxury Camping Site, Zhongwei Desert Starfield Tent Camping Site and Shapotou Yudao Art Tourism Town, guests will find plenty to keep themselves occupied. When guests have some time on their hands they can make use of the onsite facilities. Guests of this Zhongwei hotel can make use of the parking facilities. According to our guests, the location of this hotel is one of the best around. This hotel is particularly popular with those traveling with families.
"If you are coming to this resort for the experience of sleeping in the desert, it delivers reasonably well. The tent I booked was simple but adequate, with a heating blanket provided for colder nights. Go with the mindset of seeking an experience rather than hotel-level comfort.
The activities are sold as packages, the most expensive being 400 RMB for 90–120 minutes. They are fun but short and tourist-oriented, still worthwhile if you’ve made the trip. You can also take a quiet stroll into the desert.
On the downside, although the resort is marketed for stargazing, there is too much light pollution to see the stars. The Wi-Fi is unreliable, which matters since reception in the area is poor. Snacks are limited, and while a set menu is proposed, individual dishes can be requested, but no prices are displayed for these, which feels lacking in transparency. Cleanliness of the shared bathrooms was also disappointing, as they were not serviced often enough.
Overall, while not perfect, the stay is still a unique experience. I recommend it for just one night, enough to enjoy the activities and the desert atmosphere!"

"Stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city and relax in the desert. There is still such accommodation in the desert, it is really satisfying, air conditioning, electric toilet, terrace, private bathroom, comprehensive facilities and high comfort. The night view is beautiful, the stargazing location recommended by the boss, the whole starry sky is raised, and the journey becomes particularly unforgettable. The bonfire fireworks atmosphere is full. Breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner hot pot, barbecue... are quite comprehensive, this trip is not only good to eat, live well, and have fun."

衛生真的要狠狠誇，不管是窗台縫隙、床底，還是衛生間淋浴死角，全都掃得乾乾淨淨，地上看不到一粒浮沙，床品潔白乾爽，獨立衛浴沒有一點潮氣異味，每天保潔都會細緻打掃，備品都是一次性乾淨衛生，潔癖住得特別安心。
全屋是全新裝修，設施配得很齊全，冷暖空調、智慧馬桶、茶吧機、觀景露台全都有，推開門就是整片沙丘，腹地人少不擁擠，風景開闊又療癒。白天能玩沙漠 UTV、滑沙，項目刺激又解壓；晚上篝火晚會大家一起唱歌聊天，氛圍感特別足，結束還有浪漫煙火。

"Great mid-range hotel, with a good price, good service and good facilities. Rooms are large, comfortable and pleasant, with all modern features, including a smart toilet and adjustable lighting. The windows open too, if it gets too warm. The breakfast is outstanding, with a wide range of foods, all delicious, as well as coffee and five kinds of soy milk. Location is good, as it’s a 10 minute walk to the centre of town. Excellent choice of restaurants nearby as well."

VVSTA friendly lady host who fetched us from Zhongwei South railway station to the entrance of the campsite for a fee, 60 yuan. The next day we paid her another 60 yuan transportation fee to our hotel in Zhongwei city.
At the entrance, another 4WD vehicle fetched us to and from the campsite which is less than two minutes away from the main entrance.
This campsite has about 107 camps, 20 or so wooden chalets and also 20+ VIPs private individual chalets.
We booked a two-beds camp to experience the night stay in the desert.
The camp was clean and met our expectations. The shared bathrooms & toilets were also clean. The only setback was the unstable flow of the hot water, and we have informed the host about it.
Breakfast served was adequate.

We highly recommend this hotel. It’s modern and with spacious and clean rooms. And the staff is outstanding.
We were very warmly welcomed by the staff and check in went super smooth. We got lots of information and it’s easy to communicate via the hotels WeChat. The staff didn’t speak so much English, but this was not any problem with translating apps and the translate function in WeChat. The staff felt us feel very welcome and they stood out as very professional and service minded. We have travelled a lot and the staff of Huanghe Xiyu hotel made a solid impression.
The room was spacious and modern. It was very clean and nice. Good windows which could be opened. It also has mosquito nets. There were plenty water, a couple of complementary soft drinks and drip coffee and tea. Comfortable beds and several choices of pillows. The gym was also good.
The breakfast was very good. Nice selections of diffferent items. Tasty and fresh. We enjoyed freshly made noodles and dumplings. The staff in the restaurant was very friendly and service minded too.
Overall a very good experience which we do recommended.

UUsuário convidadoStayed 1 night late August. 24kms and ¥40 taxi ride from ZhongweiNan fast train station. The area used to be a farm on a bend of the Yellow River. There are numerous accommodation areas, all looking similar. Apparently, one person owns all, and rents out clusters to various entities. Ours had a restaurant, but it wasn't open. For dinner and included breakfast, we went to the first restaurant on the right as you enter through the security gate from the carpark.
Peaceful part of the world. Facility had a nice little pool, but water was too cold. Too dangerous to swim in the river. As you face the river, we walked right to a glamping area and had a cold beer. There is a petting zoo type deal on the way. To the left, you eventually climb up to a mini version of the great wall. Keep walking, for a side track to the river, or up to a little pavilion after crossing a road.
+ points, well set up, peaceful and secure.
- points, zero English and most frustrating experience I've had in China even with apps both ways. We all travel with a price to quality/experience ratio. In this instance, far too high, and I wouldn't be back or recommend this place

Dizem que o serviço é geral, excluindo primeiro! As Estrelas e Diamantes são um Grupo de gestão, o serviço deve ser Muito bom, MAS OS Diamantes de comida serão Muito bons: o Diamante TEM um total de 30 quartos de hóspedes, Mais de 200 estrelas, e posso imaginar que o serviço VAI ter UMA Grande diferença.A chave é que o quarto Das Estrelas é pequeno, não é o estilo que EU gosto.

UUsuário convidadoI absolutely loved this place! I’m writing this as a foreigner who went with 4 other foreigners for a special birthday weekend. First, the service. We have good Chinese proficiency, but those with limited to none will be fine. Most of the communication and coordination is handled via WeChat - which can auto translate. 东 “Dong” was our main contact. He rocked and gave us a real experience. He shuttled us in the sand jeep, gifted me a cake for my birthday, and was just an overall cool guy. Thanks! Second, the location and accommodations. If you stay near Desert Star, there’s a lot of people and campsites - that area seems like a bit of a tourist funnel. This area is located in the REAL sand dunes area. Further North, you actually cross into Inner Mongolia. The separation and distance is worth it. Makes for brighter stars and a more authentic experience. Third, the food. They were able to coordinate a whole lamb to be roasted for my birthday. It was absolutely extraordinary. The sides for it were some of the best I had on the entire trip - they have some skilled chefs there. This place has great reviews, and it’s worth it. I do recommend this to foreigners, and I hope I can return one day.

VVixieThe owner contacted us and picked up us up from the Zhongwei Nan Station.
It is pretty far away from the Zhongwei's downtown, and Tengger Desert is actually already counted as Inner Mongolia.
We came there at the low season, and the weather was quite freezing. Luckily the owner had informed us about the weather, so we changed our booking in time.
Even with a heater the room was still pretty cold. I can't imagine if we booked a tent.
The scenery was beautiful enough. Not too many events because there were not many tourists, thus we had a good relaxing time there.
The breakfast was simple ane satisfying. We enjoyed the meals.
The owner also gave us some souvenirs when we left the camp.
Note: We wished that there were a sweeper in the room. We would carry some sand in every time we got into the room. It would be great if there's a mat in front of the bathroom.

CCurious TravellerRelatively new hotel, clean lobby and rooms. Room was well designed and spacious with plenty of space , tables, chairs, and walking space. Service at front desk was excellent. The only downside side was the location. At the end of Aug 2025, there was major construction going on in front of the hotel in which the entire road was blocked off, leaving only a pedestrian walkway for access. The work stopped around 5pm, but they started early at8am the next morning ). It didn’t bother us as we left early for sightseeing. There were plenty of restaurants, and shops nearby , and it took us 15 min to walk to the main part of town. Overall good value for money.

MMarco MonkeyA very new hotel with larger-than-life rooms and beds that feel like apartments. The location is midway between Shapotou and Zhongwei City, so it may not be ideal for some looking for nightlife, but there are several inexpensive restaurants in walking distance, so it's easy enough to get food. The bus stop of number 2 going to the city and the sand dunes is 5 minutes walk away - just time it right because there's one bus per hour in each direction. There's Chinese-style breakfast included which may not be for everyone but it was filling. Definitely worth the money! Had a blissful rest here and would go back.

BBlade.around.the.worldThe Zhongwei Shadu Hotel is 4 star property located on a roundabout next to the highway linking Zhongwei with the Shapotou river scenic area. It's about 8 kilometres to town or about 20 yuan by taxi. The Shapotou river area is 11 kilometres away while the Shapotou desert area is about 16 kilometres away.
The immediate area of the hotel once filled with shops and restaurants has now mainly closed down and is pretty much abandoned.
The hotel itself offers fairly premium rooms with good beds, crisp linens, fresh towels and an excellent bathroom that holds a hot shower with good water pressure.
A special note of appreciation to the very friendly and hard working housekeeping who really stand out at this property.
The receptionists are not overly friendly but they are professional and are really trying to fulfil the guest's requests as expected from a property of this level.
The female manager on duty when we checked in was avoiding eye contact and flatly refused to speak to me directly when I addressed her with an issue.
One of the receptionists, the one who showed us our room, (unfortunately we don't know her name), was outstanding in her very friendly attitude. She was very mindful of problem solving. She should be recommended as the hotel's most outstanding employee especially when it comes to dealing with foreign guests.
If the location out of town is acceptable for you, the Zhongwei Shadu Hotel is recommended as a decent four star hotel. Probably this hotel is most convenient for guests who arrive with their own car.
