Lancrigg is in a beautiful location and externally at least it is very attractive, however when you are paying £170.00 per night you do expect a reasonable standard. Our room (Dickens) was quite small and not particularly nicely furnished, no valence on the bed, rusting light fittings, sticking draws, toilet seat and shower rail both very loose, towels and toilet roll and a broken hand soap dispenser were the only bathroom products. The only time the heating came on was the afternoon of our arrival, certainly not the second night which was much colder. in fact there was no sign of the recent renovations claimed on the very slick website. and the whole room and the other areas we saw were looking somewhat down at heel. Breakfast which was described as “complementary” was a very poor buffet with a very limited choice of hot food, frozen bread to make your own toast, a few miniature croissants, tinned fruit and what tasted like the cheapest orange juice available. And if you want a hot drink, there’s the kettle, help yourself! So not the service we expected at that price point. We found the drinks in the bar incredibly expensive, though on a positive note the soup we had was very nice. Though yet again very expensive. You might notice a theme here. In our opinion they are charging a premium for the location and not delivering the rooms or service to match the price. We will not be returning or indeed recommending Lancrigg to anyone
