"The Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion was newly renovated just prior to our stay in January 2026. The whole building is spotless, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. The staff make an effort to understand you, and are adept at using translation apps when conversation breaks down. They have a “Xiao Du” feature , similar to the American “Alexa”, where you can ask it to turn lights off and on, as well as to open and close the curtains . The receptionist patiently helped me to learn how to use it - and frankly , it was great practice for my pronunciation of Mandarin.
Finding the hotel is as challenging as any other located where vehicles are not permitted to enter. We were fortunate to have a taxi driver who helped us figure out where the hotel was, and then walked us there.
Datong is not yet well known as a tourist destination. However, it is a reasonably close drive to the Hanging Temple and the Grottoes, as well as the Wooden Pagoda. There is plenty to see within walking distance. The city space around the hotel is under construction- I expect it will become a lot more popular in the next two years."

Inicialmente, só tinha reservado a primeira noite e já tinha outro hotel para a segunda, mas por acaso encontrei disponibilidade e reservei a segunda noite aqui também. Que sorte ter feito essa escolha, a experiência foi realmente ótima! É tranquilo e confortável, a equipe é super atenciosa, e o café da manhã e o congee noturno são excelentes! Da próxima vez, com certeza vou escolher este lugar de novo!"

"This hotel is amazing! Always so happy to come back to this beautiful space at the end of the day. Datong ancient town is not big and is easy to get around from Onetwo Hotel. Front desk is always so helpful to offer us assistance and check in with us on our needs. Not forgetting, their breakfast is an absolute winner! (If i have to nitpick, i would have preferred if we had fresh towel instead of one-use towels.) Nonetheless, would recommend this place to anyone coming to Datong. 👍👍👍"

No. 3 of Premium Hotels in Datong"Desta vez, quando cheguei a Shanxi, escolhi o Yungang Hotel em Datong.O hotel tem um ambiente novo e a decoração é muito bonita. A casa de banho é muito confortável.Depois de cozinhar e lavar, é muito relaxante e há também uma sala de descanso. O pequeno-almoço era um pouco monótono, mas o jantar era muito rico.Senti especialmente que o pessoal de serviço no jantar de 6 de Setembro, Sra. Wang Gailin, era muito atencioso e acessível. O quarto duplo que escolhi para ficar neste momento é muito bonito. A lâmpada de cristal e o mármore são muito atraentes. O design da banheira aberta é um pouco desconfortável para famílias individuais. Não havia mensageiro quando fiz o check-in. Havia pessoas bebendo e fazendo barulho no saguão quando cheguei e não consegui impedi-las. "The b&b is located at the edge of the datong ancient wall. It is a little further from all the hustle and bustle but still convenient enough to get around.
The service is impeccable!! We were warmly welcomed by the staff. They brought our heavy luggage up to our room and helped us with anything we needed.
The b&b is new and clean! The room is also pretty spacious. The toilet seat is heated which was super nice (it was cold out when we visited). They provide basic amenities. The drinks in the fridge are also complimentary. They’re also able to cater to our dietary restrictions for breakfast (vegetarian-friendly).
Highly recommend!!"

The only thing is that the heat is 'on' even if you lower the temperature to its lowest setting. Thankfully there was a window to open even though it was -6° outside. The buffet was great with lots of selections. The one & only restaurant for dinner was great. Their large Asian menu provided pictures of all the dishes. The staff in the restaurant was very friendly & helpful. The pool was nice and clean. There was even a lifeguard on duty. The hot tubs were separate in the men's & ladies' change rooms. The only issue was that the front desk staff was very limited with English and there were no concierge services. Other than that we enjoyed our stay at this hotel."

"Spent a most enjoyable 5-day stay here. The owners are really nice -- they not only surprised us with a welcome fruit platter but also sent another one on another day. When we had to wake up super early on one of the days, they actually cooked 2 hard boil eggs for us to pack for breakfast (despite us saying no the night before as we didn't wish to trouble them). The husband also sent us via his car to a nearby pick-up point that we had to assemble at 5.40am.
This is a very nicely done up place, well-maintained and very clean too. Good quality toiletries provided, comfortable bed, bathroom with a shower cubicle, water that is hot enough, even a toilet bowl. Great location -- there're rows of different types of shops nearby but it's still surprisingly quiet despite our room facing the road with a balcony, there're 2 cafes nearby, a nearby eatery that sells the most delicious 'shao bing' (crispy skin pastry with meat in it) - it's freshly made when one orders and a adjoining noodle stall that serves noodles that's quite OK too. It's just opposite the Hua Yan Si temple - one of the must-visit on the list of places in Datong. Hua Yan temple is also located in a huge square with more shops and food. From the front door of the homestay, turn right and walk all the way down abt 15-20mins, go through the ancient walls and then cross the road, you'll find Parkson mall there - a huge modern mall with all your usual F & B + shops that you'll find in these malls, supermarket, etc. The bus-stop to Yun Gang Grottoes is also nearby.
A new landmark that makes it easy to locate this charming homestay : a new huge pink bunny with the Chinese characters of Datong on a green artificial grass patch, that is located just abt 200m away from its main entrance."

"During my trip to Datong, I stayed at a courtyard-style guesthouse near the Drum Tower in the ancient city. The experience was truly beyond imagination and must be highly praised! This guesthouse is perfectly situated in the heart of the ancient city. From the moment I stepped into the guesthouse, I felt like I had stepped back into ancient times. The guesthouse retains the authentic, rustic charm of the courtyard, with its blue bricks, gray tiles, and carved doors and windows, exuding a sense of history. But don't let that fool you; it's fully equipped with modern amenities. The smart climate control system ensures a comfortable room temperature, and the security features provide peace of mind. Relaxing in the courtyard, I found it incredibly relaxing to sit on a stone bench under a tree, brew a cup of tea, and feel the gentle breeze. The room was warm and elegant, and the bedding was soft and comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The bathroom was spotless, and the toiletries were high-quality.
The service at the guesthouse was impeccable. The staff were warm and attentive, from patiently answering questions at check-in to helping with luggage—every detail was thoughtful and attentive. They also thoughtfully recommended nearby restaurants and sightseeing spots, such as the traditional hot pot on Gulou East Street and the steamed buns at Fenglin Pavilion, both of which were particularly authentic. Furthermore, the B&B is within walking distance of attractions like Huayan Temple, the Fuwen Temple, and the Drum Tower, making it very convenient for exploring.
The breakfast was also a pleasant surprise, with a wide variety, including local specialty knife-cut noodles, millet porridge, and a variety of exquisite dim sum. Staying here allows you to enjoy the tranquility and charm of the ancient city while conveniently experiencing the local cuisine and culture. I'll definitely choose this place again when I visit Datong next time!"
