Clean and brilliant location for apartments. Well stocked for breakfast / lunch at home. Two mins to supermarket shops bars restaurants and same to beach. Lovely pool for afternoons if sea too rough. Only minor critics m there is only air con in one room cue whingeing from kids about how hot it was in there room

Asterion was the perfect place for our honeymoon. From start to finish, the staff here made us feel so welcome. They remembered our room numbers, asked how we were, were readily available for any questions and were just really lovely genuinely friendly people. The rooms were absolutely lovely with comfy beds, sofas and sun loungers. The toilet facilities and shower were good and very clean with thoroughly daily housekeeping. The beach is so close by and has a good amount of sun loungers which you can order drinks to be delivered to. A really nice touch. The food was incredible, such good quality and excellent portion sizes. So tasty, we miss it already! I'd definitely recommend the orange pie and the sausages for breakfast and the linguine for lunch, although everything was fantastic. Breakfast came with lovely refreshing orange juice and cool water was available with each meal too. Our stay was all-inclusive and the variety of drinks available throughout the day was brilliant. The smoothies, mocktails, cocktails and everything in between were great and hot chocolate was available in the evening too, which was nice! The bar staff were also really friendly. Each day, the room's fridge is topped up with numerous soft drinks and water bottles. Coffee is also available in the rooms. The entertainment was lovely and not too in-your-face. 'Greek night' was fantastic! There are lots of cats and kittens, as well as dogs roaming around which was lovely to see, all clean and looked after. Watching the kittens play was lovely. Checkout was really easy and the manager, George, even let us stay longer in another room so that we had somewhere comfortable to be before our taxi to the airport. We are very grateful for this! Thank you so much to everyone at Asterion from making our stay so enjoyable! We would definitely recommend this hotel for couples!

GGuest UserJust back from an amazing week at Ledra Maleme. I cannot put one word of criticism for this brilliant place. It was spotlessly clean, perfectly located just 5 mins from the beach, supermarket and local restaurants, the room was modern and beds comfortable and clean. The pool is the only holiday pool I have ever been in that is at the perfect temperature, no shock getting in, just cool enough to take the heat out. We ate at the hotel a few times and the food was freshly cooked and so tasty. Cretian night was great fun! Mr Costas works so hard to make sure all the guests are looked after. Every aspect of the holiday was perfect, from the taxi transfer, to getting the little train to the waterpark, the bus to chania, the weather if course, and Cretian people are so welcoming and helpful, I simply cannot fault it at all. Perfect!!! Thank you Crete!

Mixed Feelings About This Resort Starting with the positives: The rooms are beautifully designed and modern, particularly the swim-up rooms. The resort’s grounds and gardens are meticulously maintained, with impressive pools, poolside facilities, and an engaging waterpark. The layout, featuring bridges, a long pool, a ”beach” pool, and seating near the bar, is thoughtfully executed. Evening entertainment, especially the live music and the full moon party, was a highlight. The food is outstanding, with a wide variety of dishes that are both flavorful and expertly prepared. Kudos to the chefs! However, there were several areas where the resort fell short of expectations: Arrival Experience: While the staff member who greeted us was friendly, the check-in process was not reflective of a luxury 5-star resort. Rather than being escorted to a comfortable seating area, we were simply asked to ”find a seat somewhere.” A welcome drink would have been a nice touch after the 1.15-hour bus journey. The check-in process itself was impersonal, requiring us to fill out a form via a QR code before approaching the reception desk to ask, ”What's next?” It would have been more fitting to receive our room keys while enjoying a welcome drink in a more relaxed setting. Although the initial impression was less than ideal, it did improve once we reached our room. However, the so-called welcome drink and snack—a supermarket nut bar and warm bottled iced tea—left much to be desired. Dining Experience: We were aware prior to booking that only four restaurants were available, which would have been acceptable if the buffet matched the standard of luxury resorts like Ikos or Sani. Unfortunately, it did not. The buffet quality at breakfast, lunch, and dinner was more akin to a standard 5-star hotel in Turkey, which, while acceptable, fell short of the luxury experience we anticipated. Morning coffee is self-service, and juices are dispensed from machines similar to those found in fast food outlets, with freshly squeezed orange juice hidden away in a corner where many guests might miss it. Seating near the edges of the restaurant meant enduring the noise of cutlery being thrown into bins by staff, who, though hardworking, seemed more focused on clearing tables than creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. It’s worth noting that there is a superior breakfast buffet available in another restaurant by the sea for guests in certain rooms, but it’s disappointing that not all guests can enjoy this higher standard. For a 5-star resort, consistency across all dining experiences is essential. On a positive note, the four specialty restaurants on-site were excellent, though the absence of an à la carte lunch option was noticeable. Staff and Service: The general attitude of the staff was concerning. Many seemed disengaged and uninterested in their work, which gave the impression that they did not enjoy serving guests. While there were some exceptions, they were few and far between.

GGrimI knew as soon as I heard goats with their little bells on that I’d like this place. Quiet, quaint, country accomodation on the way to Samaria Gorge.
The family who run it were all lovely, and mum even made me up a picnic to take on the hike before dad gave us a lift to the starting point.
Maybe it’s because it never happens back home, but I ordered a beer downstairs upon arrival, and got given free olives - that made my absolute day and, though previously incorruptible, my loyalty was bought instantly and totally.
I also had the rabbit fry up thingo, which tasted great, although the salad itself was even better, though it curse my carnivorous tongue to say it.
The bedroom had a great balcony for looking out over the green and rocky hills. Bed was super comfy, and it actually was a little colder way up in the Omalos elevation (in June) which made sleep come very easily for those like me who run hot. Big fluffy blanket in the cupboard though for those of you who like to be warmer.
The bathroom is a bit small and being on the tall end of the height spectrum I had to be wary not to knock myself out on the hand basin when using the toilet. But if you’re under 6 foot you’ll patting your genetics on their small back.
The building is relatively old so expect to hear some footfalls as other guests go past your room, but other than that, blissfully quiet overnight.
The daughter of the family speaks really good English which helped a couple times, when regretfully I seemed to have forgotten all my Greek (which I rudely hadn’t learned prior to arriving).
I can’t recommend this homely hotel enough, so if you’re on your way to hike the gorge, park your car here and stay the night. Then stay in Agia Romelli at the very end of the hike. Then come back to Omalos the next day and get some home style cooking back into your weary body.
Or whatever floats your ferry.
