World class for athletes maybe, but not for me 😂 Perhaps a great place to come for a training camp, and it did seem like the hot buffet looked good, but I just wanted toast, cereal and a coffee, all of which were no better than you find in a Travelodge. No water in room, no vending machine. Worst of all for me s the abundance of signage using red underlined text. You must do this, only take one of that, you can only have coffee at these times. Felt like being back at school! Website strongly infers that there is gym access nearby (plus, look at the name of the place), but at check in I was told that the only option was PAYG access at Burleigh Court. I know I may be getting grumpy in my old age but this missed too many of the basics for me.

awesome! Classic B&B, not far from the town centre, very close to the steam train station, next to the Tesco convenience store and Chinese restaurant. Opposite is a large green area. The house is very local, the interior is very retro and the facilities in the room are very comprehensive. The fly in the ointment is that the heating is not enough. The daily heating starts from 3 pm to the morning, but the owner will give a small electric heater, there is water for washing hands, a cold water tap, a hot water, may be the reason for the old house, hot water faucet It’s hot, and it’s the same as a college student dormitory more than a decade ago. The owner is the two old gentlemen (Derek and Lez) and a cute dog. Everyday breakfast is absolutely good, Derek is serving everyone every morning, Lez is responsible for the kitchen, classic English breakfast, tastes good, and the environment is very good. The owner is very enthusiastic, there is a piano in the private living room, you can play, Derek plays the piano, and Lez sings, very interesting.

Business trips are rarer these days. In the case of the Quorn Grange Hotel this is a mercy. You do NOT want to stay here any time soon. Travelling from Glasgow, I arrived 3 hours later than I had intended. However - at 2120, there was no room service available - not even a sandwich. I hadn’t eaten since 1300. I was advised to ‘phone a carry out’… However the delivery time from Dominos was ＞1hour by which time I was planning to be asleep. I tried to connect my devices to the internet in my room (305) but was unable to get a signal on any of them (2 iPhones and a laptop). I needed wifi because I had online meetings all day I phoned reception to inform them and ask advice at 2145. The phone rang for 2.5 mins. (That’s quite a long time for a hotel reception to pick up the phone for a resident?!) And then the answer…. ‘Oh yes. 305. It’s a bit of a hotspot I’m afraid - I’ll get back to you’. But of course - No one did. I went town to reception at 2230. No one was there. No one was at the bar either. Or in the kitchen where I shouted ‘Hello?! Is anyone around?’ After a further 6 minutes of searching around I was eventually introduced to a young man at reception. I told him that I’d phoned abojt the wifi problem but no one had got back to me. Disinterested, and avoiding eye contact completely, he told me he had only just come on. I asked if there had been a handover. He said yes - at 1100 (it was now 2245). I asked where the previous lady was who had said she would get back to me - he didn’t know (or care). He asked me to try my wifi at reception. I pointed out that it worked at reception - but that was no help in my room. He walked into the kitchen and I asked ‘what should I do?’ He answered ‘I’m not a mechanic’…. At 2248 an older gentleman appeared and said he was unaware Thee was a wifi problem in 305. I pointed out that his colleague seemed to know there was a hotspot there. He didn’t. He disappeared and came back a few mins later and said ‘I’ve just tried wifi outside your door and it works fine.’ I asked if he didn’t believe me and he agreed to come into my room to see. I showed him all three devices not connecting whilst his did. As I type this in my room (305) there is still no wifi signal. Eventually he suggested another room - however none were available. So he arranged (helpfully) for me to have a meeting room for my meetings. Which I was grateful for and used successfully. Then I got to lunchtime. 1200 was advertised as the time when bar lunches were available. I went to the bar at 1155 to ask if I could order food. I was informed that there was no food available until 1300 because ‘there’s a wedding on’. I asked ‘what about other residents who may need to eat?’ Once again I was advised to contact Dominos - which I already knew would take a hour. So. Overall. An incredibly suboptimal experience in a place that describes itself as ‘a perfect setting’…. Oh. And by the way. The violent pictures from the miners

Business trips are rarer these days. In the case of the Quorn Grange Hotel this is a mercy. You do NOT want to stay here any time soon. Travelling from Glasgow, I arrived 3 hours later than I had intended. However - at 2120, there was no room service available - not even a sandwich. I hadn’t eaten since 1300. I was advised to ‘phone a carry out’… However the delivery time from Dominos was ＞1hour by which time I was planning to be asleep. I tried to connect my devices to the internet in my room (305) but was unable to get a signal on any of them (2 iPhones and a laptop). I needed wifi because I had online meetings all day I phoned reception to inform them and ask advice at 2145. The phone rang for 2.5 mins. (That’s quite a long time for a hotel reception to pick up the phone for a resident?!) And then the answer…. ‘Oh yes. 305. It’s a bit of a hotspot I’m afraid - I’ll get back to you’. But of course - No one did. I went town to reception at 2230. No one was there. No one was at the bar either. Or in the kitchen where I shouted ‘Hello?! Is anyone around?’ After a further 6 minutes of searching around I was eventually introduced to a young man at reception. I told him that I’d phoned abojt the wifi problem but no one had got back to me. Disinterested, and avoiding eye contact completely, he told me he had only just come on. I asked if there had been a handover. He said yes - at 1100 (it was now 2245). I asked where the previous lady was who had said she would get back to me - he didn’t know (or care). He asked me to try my wifi at reception. I pointed out that it worked at reception - but that was no help in my room. He walked into the kitchen and I asked ‘what should I do?’ He answered ‘I’m not a mechanic’…. At 2248 an older gentleman appeared and said he was unaware Thee was a wifi problem in 305. I pointed out that his colleague seemed to know there was a hotspot there. He didn’t. He disappeared and came back a few mins later and said ‘I’ve just tried wifi outside your door and it works fine.’ I asked if he didn’t believe me and he agreed to come into my room to see. Arrived on Monday and the staff were amazing. Really happy and informative . The two gentlemen on the counter smiled the whole time we were there and made us feel extremely welcome. Our rooms were changed to be downstairs as we had our dog with us. They couldn't have been better. The rooms were very clean and welcoming. Small and cosy, but it's what we expected. Evening meal (curry) was really nice and well worth the money Woke up the Tuesday morning and everything changed. The breakfast staff didn't talk to us or smile once. The lady just pointed at the food when I asked what was included in our breakfast. We went for food in the evening and the staff were really rude and charged us the wrong price for our food and drinks. No apology for offered. There was a twenty minute wait from our first to fourth meal. Once again no apology. I asked twice for the naan bread for the curry and was finally told that there were none left. This was not explained when we ordered. She said we could have white bread if we wanted. The food was left on the counter one at a time, unlike the first night when it was all brought together to our table. In conclusion, the facilities were clean and easy to access, the beds for small but comfortable. Very nice shower. The staff on the first night deserve a pay rise, unlike the second who need to be retrained in their job roles

+ Spacious, clean, modern room. Friendly staff, if you can find them. Decent advanced price. - No gym, no aircon, poor alternatives to hot buffet at breakfast, unwelcoming notices everywhere. World class for athletes maybe, but not for me 😂 Perhaps a great place to come for a training camp, and it did seem like the hot buffet looked good, but I just wanted toast, cereal and a coffee, all of which were no better than you find in a Travelodge. No water in room, no vending machine. Worst of all for me s the abundance of signage using red underlined text. You must do this, only take one of that, you can only have coffee at these times. Felt like being back at school! Website strongly infers that there is gym access nearby (plus, look at the name of the place), but at check in I was told that the only option was PAYG access at Burleigh Court. I know I may be getting grumpy in my old age but this missed too many of the basics for me.
