Lovely stay to break the journey from Edinburgh to London. The car park is a walk away from the entrance, so you have to park at the entrance gates and find a porter if you need help with your luggage or if it's raining. The General Manager Lionel, welcomed us in person and was very accommodating. Nice Spa and pool but there was a water- aerobics class on, which meant guests couldn’t have a swim which was a shame. So instead I crossed the road and had a wonderful walk round the race track. There is no bar as such, just a beautiful, very elegant lounge. The Restaurant lacks atmosphere, some music would help perhaps, but Laim our waiter was superb and really looked after us well. Small menu and amazing wine list! An absolute must while you are staying here is to enjoy the gardens; they are stunning!

Highly recommended. We spent four nights at this delightful historic hotel. The staff were all extremely pleasant, helpful and welcoming. The food was delicious and service excellent. The pool at the Spa was lovely and warm, ideal for a relaxing swim. Easy access to York.

Nice “country estate” just 2 miles from the fun part of York. The food is very good. The staff is excellent. We initially stayed in a suite in the main historic house. Lots of bumps and creeks at night made a sound sleep challenging. When we discussed with the staff, they found a newer suite available next to the historic house that was perfect!

We had been looking forward to afternoon tea here.We were put in the upstairs sitting room due to a function.It was very nice and private.We were given a complimentary glass of champagne due to this I think. The afternoon tea was nice but have had better.Shown the menu describing 5 sandwiches I think and only 3 appeared.The rest of it was very nice but not the 5* I expected. Random banging for about 5 minutes didn't help. Service charge added to the bill on payment which they did remove. I don't think it was worth £42 each.

The perfect getaway. Can’t fault anything, staff, service, food, location, room, all 10/10. Booked to go back whilst in the car on the way home! The hotel grounds are simply stunning. We also used the spa facilities which were great and very relaxing. Followed by room service in a very comfortable, cosy room.

Our 5 night stay at Middlethorpe was amazing. The manor is beautiful, service is impeccable and personal, the food is prepared with the finest and freshest ingredients and presented beautifully, and the gardens and grounds are a delight to wander in. I was there on my birthday and treated to a very special experience of flowers and sparkling wine to enhance my day. Staying at Middlethorpe was a memorable experience.

We chose Middlethorpe Hall as a venue for our university friends reunion . It was the perfect choice . From the moment of initial enquiry to the point of departure the staff could not have been more accommodating . We received a very warm welcome on a very drizzly day. Individually shown to our rooms and assistance offered with baggage to our courtyard rooms. Drinks in the cosy lounge , followed by a very long Sunday lunch set the tone for the day. When the rain eased we enjoyed a stroll in the grounds which are beautifully maintained. We had an hour in the spa/ pool before meeting back in the main house for drinks and wonderful bar snacks . The staff were very attentive but also allowed us just to sit and chat which was the purpose of the reunion. Breakfast was very good and again we were seated on a round table which allowed the six of us to have a group conversation. Reception staff booked taxis for us and were as helpful on our departure as they were on our arrival. We were delighted with our stay at Middlethorpe

Visited for a short break. This was our first visit. The hotel met expectations in every way. We had room 7 in the main house. It was well appointed with views to the front lawn. Visitors should be aware that the building is over 300 years old so there are some idiosyncrasies such as uneven floors and creaking floorboards but this is part of the joy of the place. The public rooms are luxurious. We ate in the Oak Room for 3 nights. Food was fantastic. We asked for the “snack menu” on one night to give some variety and that was excellent as well. The grounds are lovely. The staff were excellent, being attentive to every request. All in all, thoroughly recommended.

The Hotel is in a lovely setting and easy to access. From the minute we arrived the staff couldn't do enough for you. They were welcoming and friendly and very accommodating. Sunday lunch was superb, served promptly and everything was hot and well presented. We stayed the night and had a sandwich in the evening which was well priced and very enjoyable especially with a Gin and tonic cocktail! The bedroom was in the old stables area and was characterful, well maintained and clean. facilities in the room were well provided including robes and slippers. I was particularly pleased to see a magnifying mirror in the bathroom, great for those of us with poor eyesight! We used the Spa and once again the staff were very helpful. Good size pool. In the morning breakfast was once again excellent. We had a cooked breakfast which was of a high standard and there was a good selection of pastries and cereals. The atmosphere and ambiance was what you would expect from such a property. We will definately return
