The hotel was located pretty close to everything which was nice. When we went in the room it smelt odd and the AC was not working.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ballast very much. It is located within walking distance of many things to do, see, and eat. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful.
Our room was very clean and that was comforting.
The bathroom, while clean, has a few unique characteristics. The sink has very little room between the faucet and sink bottom. The commode is extremely low to the ground. We found it quite odd.
We would stay again requesting a water view room.

This stay made us Hilton customers. The staff was so friendly AND exceedingly competent - from the front desk, to guest services (I needed an extra pillow), to maintenance (hottest January day in Wilmington’s history tested the AC, but they got it nice & cold in literally two minutes). This is a hotel from the 1970s, so some small things showed (creaky bathroom door, rattling AC), but this was the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever slept on, the property was full of amenities like cabanas with heaters and a grab-n-go shop, the bar was excellent and cozy, and the view was astounding of the river. Parking was easy and super convenient to do ourselves (we chose not to do valet). The area was very walkable too, we came & went multiple times per evening. Simply put, this place is a gem and we will be staying here whenever we come back to Wilmington in the future. Fantastic hotel.

The staff was very friendly, my only complaints were with the room. There were no fridges in any of the rooms and also while the shower was a great size it had mold, growing in the grout.

Primary access on foot is problematic and not well lighted at night. Parking should be included in the per night, not an extra charge since there is no covered parking. Building repairs in room appeared shoddy and obvious needs overlooked.

We have stayed here before and had a great stay however this room must have been older. Smelled like it had been smoked in, mold in shower and the heater blew cold air. It was 53 degrees in the room during the night. Front desk didn’t seem to be too concerned. I’d suggest you ask for a new room than those on the 8th floor.
