We booked two nights at Khan River Lodge for its vicinity to Erindi National Park which we wanted to visit. Well that went sideways as Erindi is 20 km away but a two hour drive one-way. The farm driveway is a 12 km trail (4WD not required). We were awaited by manager Rohan who told us that we'd be doing some nice activities, without saying what these are. There are 8 accomodations for 2-3 people complete with braai spot and all. Some are meant for self-catering, some aren't. We had very nice meals in the small restaurant, drinks in the bar area and in the late afternoon a campfire was lit and we sat around it, accompanied by Rohan and his guitar for a singalong. The activities turned out to be a gamedrive with sundowner and target shooting. The latter was certainly unexpected but very fun to do. The location is a cattle farm with added guest facilities so do not expect a tourist attraction. It is in the middle of nowhere without any light pollution, we saw the Milky Way and so many stars. This is a charming lodge which wasn't anything like we expected and far exceeded our expectations.
