Greenhill Hotel

I have visited the hotel fairly regularly over the last 15 years. The room was nice, very traditional but immaculately clean. The food is amazing and the portions are huge. The real asset here are all the staff who are lovely and cannot do enough for you. Well done everyone, I’ll look forward to my next visit.

A lovely building in a lovely rural setting, very friendly helpful staff and the food is of very high quality and plentiful. The room although comfortable was a bit tired and in need of some updating and some reorganisation. Very small bathroom but ample.

Having returned from our 3rd visit to this fantastic hotel,I would like to thank everyone at The Greenhill for an extremely enjoyable weekend celebrating my birthday,. The room was lovely, the food superb and an excellent range of drinks. The staff as always were welcoming and friendly, nothing too much trouble (I must single out Wendy in the restaurant who went above and beyond to ensure our evening meal and our Sunday lunch was amazing) Thank you all, we will be back!

Went for Sunday Lunch yesterday and it was amazing! Friendly, courteous service, tables beautifully set, and the food was awesome! I had the Pate to start - delicious - then the Roast Pork. Best Yorkshire puddings ever and at £25 for 3 courses this is great value! We’ll be back!

We were pleasantly surprised by the grand exterior and the warm welcome of reception. Our room (10) was warm and cosy. The ensuite bathroom is tiny and there appears to be very low water pressure and little to no temperature regulation on the taps. The shower is a trickle of either boiling or freezing water. The bar has no cosy/comfy seating which is a shame. We chose a bottle of wine and were directed to sit at a table and to get our own chairs from the next table along.... A bit weird! For Sunday dinner there was only the choice of a 3 course roast, the a la carte menu not available. I wasn't that hungry so was advised I could select one item and they'd discount it. Pre-booked breakfast, no mushrooms or yoghurt - Lidl only 2 miles away. Overall, it was ok. Would I recommend it? No. Would I come again? Probably not.

We were travelling midweek in February from Surrey to Scotland for a family funeral and were looking for somewhere to stay overnight that was slightly off the beaten track (ie the M6) and different to the Premier Inn sector. The Greenhill Hotel fitted the bill perfectly. A superb and very imposing Georgian pile set well back from the A595, the hotel immediately had a warm and welcoming feeling when we arrived. Our room was warm and very comfortable (it was -8 at night). We ate in the restaurant and were very impressed with the high quality of the food, which was practically all locally sourced. Also my wife is gluten intolerant and this was not a problem for the hotel and chef. Well done! We stayed there midweek in the middle of winter and we were pleasantly surprised how busy it was, which added to the Georgian atmosphere of the hotel.

Had lunch at The Greenhill today with a friend. It was really lovely. Great atmosphere. Great service. Great food. Great value too. Really good to see it busy on a weekday lunchtime. Absolutely couldn’t fault it. Parking is plentiful and it’s a fab place. Thank you!

Just attended a dinner dance at the Green Hill Hotel along with 265 other guests. The food was delicious and the staff so well organised and hard working. Despite the very large numbers, everyone was fed very quickly and efficiently. The Hotel itself, is lovey with a beautiful conservatory, extremely large function room and elegantly decorated lounges. Drink prices were very reasonable and the hotel would make a fantastic wedding or special birthday party venue for anyone looking for somewhere in North Cumbria. Looking forward to going back there very soon.

Stayed for 1 night check in easy room was nice bed comfortable. Shower was poor however for an old building can be expected but bathroom itself could do with a lick of paint, mold ect. Got a good night sleep quiet room. Food was excellent however service poor. Expect a wait as was busy but waited 30 minutes after our booked in time for someone to take our order. Also on a number of occasions staff walked passed our table nobody asked if we wanted a top up of drinks. Went to bar area but was no staff anywhere. Gave up in the end and went to bed. Breakfast was excellent as was the service. Overall food was top notch but let down by poor service. Room was adequate for what we needed as only staying 1 night.
