The design is better. The facilities are relatively new. The bathroom is relatively small. The floor aisle is darker.

This was my first stay in a capsule. I admit that I thought one would enter from the side instead of the end, not that this seemed to be a problem. I like the idea of being ensconced in a cocoon but I realise this isn’t for everyone. In dorm room situations I always prefer a lower bunk, the upper bunks can be more awkward. Unsurprisingly, the same applies here. Anyway, I put the pillow down the far end and climbed in head first. You ‘seal’ your capsule by pulling down the blind at the end. I am not claustrophobic in any way but found I had to keep the blind open for ventilation. There did appear to be ways to adjust the temperature but due to a busy travel schedule I didn’t get a chance to ask staff about this. This hotel uses Goki, this app that lets you scan yourself into the building and the rooms instead of typing in a room code. It has other functions as well. It is worth getting the Goki app as the door codes are changed periodically for security reasons but Goki should always scan you in once you’ve set it up. I thought that $5 for the laundry was a little much and I’m not sure how they ascertained who had paid and who hadn’t since you just walked in. Laundry detergent was included in the $5 charge and when I asked where I would find it they said it would be set out but I couldn’t find it anywhere so I had to track down a staff member. I’m glad to have finally checked ‘sleep in a capsule’ off the list.
Holiday Inn Washington-Central/White House, an IHG Hotel

Check in was great, as I was able to get a room before the designated check in time, because my flight arrived early in the morning. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had plenty of towels. The hotel is also walking distance from many shops and restaurants in DuPont Circle, which made it a great location to be in. I’d definitely return to this hotel whenever I come back to DC!

Was given a room on the first floor when I first checked in. Removed the linens and checked the bed and there was evidence of a previous bedbug infestation (dried blood around the mattress especially the corners). Asked if they had had a problem and was told a couple years ago. Was given a new room and checked and everything was clean. The price & location was great. Staff was courteous but the cleanliness iffy. Will not be staying there again. If you decide to stay here, check the beds and area
Viceroy Washington DC

The staff was very friendly and helpful when we required assistance. Unfortunately, the property itself didn't meet expectations. We intentionally paid more to stay at the Viceroy due to the its reputation and reviews of this particular Viceroy hotel. However, our first room was incredibly loud with noises coming from the wall, which we assume was water pipe or mechanical systems. Understandably, the building is old and noises are to be heard, but this was beyond loud. We then switched rooms to a higher floor which was fine noise level wise, but the paint on the ceiling was peeling in several places and the trim around the bathroom was shabby, showing signs of disrepair. In addition, neither room had in room coffee/tea available. That is a pretty standard amenity for hotels these days. The front desk was able to provide a coffee/tea setup but that seems odd and there was no mention of this in the room or online. There wasn't a mini bar either, but there were snacks available for purchase in the lobby and a mini fridge in the room so you do have other options. The coffee bar downstairs was great - delicious coffees and pastries! Lastly, being charged an ”amenities” fee of nearly $30 when there weren't a lot of amenities offered was irritating. Other than the wifi and the gym, there were no other amenities (the pool is only seasonal). As for the amenities Viceroy lists on its site, it includes ”meeting rooms” and ”rotating art displays”. I'm sorry, but those ”amenities” are pretty standard fare for any hotel and not something that guests should be expected to pay extra for. Again, the staff was helpful and the overall vibe of the hotel was modern, but for the price and quality of rooms that we experienced, I don't recommend it.
Kimpton Banneker Hotel, an IHG Hotel

Although, as others have mentioned, this renovated apartment building does not have the same charm/amenities one usually finds with a Kimpton hotel, the location is great, the rooms nicely done/larger than typically found in DC, and the staff are very helpful. We had a great discounted rate for our stay and would not hesitate to stay here again at a similar rate...at a higher, more typical rate for Kimptons, there may be better options worth considering.
