Navy Yard
Nice big hotel, but not the cleanest. Found several different hairs in the shower, bathroom and by the bed that weren’t mine and they were different colors. Bed was comfy and the gym was really good (new, huge and clean), because it’s a private gym for people who live in the luxury building across the street. Check-in staff were friendly :).

Downtown Washington
The room is quite big, and each of the twin beds is also very big, which is no problem for two people to sleep, and the hardware facilities are very good. The hotel is not far from the White House and can be reached on foot. The subway station is less than 500 meters away from the hotel, and you can take the subway to the airport. The attitude of the hotel staff is average, not very enthusiastic. I recommend this hotel for a big family. The 20-dollar buffet breakfast is also OK, semi-buffet, ordering + bread, ham and fruit buffet.

I stayed at the hotel for a quick mid-week business trip. The room was fine…as others have noted, it was a smaller more European style room but new and had almost everything I wanted. The problems I had with the hotel were with the front desk staff and the valet parking. The person at the front desk who checked me in…and who ended up checking me out…could not have done less to help me or make me feel welcome. He checked me in and handed me a key and that was about it. When I asked if the room I had was a quieter room..:he said “it should be” and that was about it…since there is no room service, he tried to find a list of local restaurants but couldn’t find it. At the check-in, it felt like you were pretty much on your own. I had read some reviews before I arrived and I mistakenly thought they only had housekeeping after you checked out so I felt terrible when I arrived back at my room on the first day and found that housekeeping had cleaned…as I had not left a tip for the housekeeper. I went to the front desk as I was checking out later that day and wanted to leave money for the housekeeper. The same person at the front desk told me that he could not help me because that was the housekeeping department’s responsibility. To which I replied, “well can’t you call housekeeping…aren’t you able to talk to them?” He tried to call but again no luck and I ended up just leaving money in the room with a note and hoped it would get to the person. The valet parking system is a somewhat high tech system that must be great in theory but doesn’t work for this hotel. First, the hotel has a very poor set-up for the parking attendants…an umbrella and a tiny podium. The system works off a portable hand held device…the parking attendant is supposed to enter your name and cell phone and car information into the device and that generates a text to your phone that you use as a claim ticket. The only problem is, that as anyone who has tried to read their phone in the sun knows, it is very hard for the parking attendants to see the device screen to enter the information…and the attendants I worked with seemed to not have English as their first language and that made it more difficult for them to spell and enter correctly. The gentleman who valet parked my car when I arrived was writing information down on a pad and must have been entering it at a later time rather than trying to enter the info on the device when it was very busy. He was doing his best but it felt less than secure to have all my info on a pad of paper in the middle of the street. It was not his fault, felt so sorry for them. They were trying to do a good job but the system the hotel put in place and the lack of care and consideration for the valet parking staff was very upsetting. Is the hotel going to leave them out there with no shelter in the winter and ask them to enter information into a device in the wind and snow. A paper claim check would be so much easier for everyone:
