Madama Garden Retreat

Madama Garden Retreat is exactly what it says. Hidden in plain site, we rang the entry bell and the metal gate swung open to a lovely sanctuary in the middle of Venice. A beautiful garden with a tented deck where we ate breakfast and sipped wine watching the traffic on the canal. Our room was a suite with windows opening to the canal Misericordia (the location is excellent). The décor was beautiful, the beds comfortable; the property is amazing. The very best part of Madama Garden Retreat is Mara, the ever present owner and Lorenzo. The hospitality is warm and wonderful. We got great recommendations for shopping and restaurants "We send you to where Venetians go for a great meal" and they did not disappoint. Don't stay anywhere else in Venice. We can't wait to come back. Grazze Mara, Lorenzo!

So attentive, beautiful peaceful setting. 1st time in a boutique hotel. I usually go for more amenities but thought I would try something different. Mara the owner and Lorenzo were amazing. We arrived in the early hours of the morning and we were met by Mara who showed us to our wonderful suite and hot and cold food waiting in the room. One of the best hotels I have stayed in. Don't go anywhere else in Venice!!!

This is THE BEST hotel we have stayed at. It was beautifully designed, quiet and with great service.

Wonderful experience!

My two daughters and I stayed for three nights in July, 2022. The streets and sights of Venice were streaming with tourists. What a joy to find this gorgeous oasis from the chaos! Our two-bedroom garden apar**ent was meticulously renovated and decorated with luxurious fabric wall coverings, marble tiles, multi-stone floors, etc. Many restaurants and shops (including a good-sized grocery store) are within a five minute walk. As this retreat is not located in the heart of Venice’s main tourist area (a plus for us), we loved our daily 15-20 minute walks through the narrow streets and over bridges on the way to our excursions - a great way to discover more of the city. You will occasionally hear the water police and ambulance boats whizzing by, but that is Venice’s car-free reality. Sitting in the luscious, manicured garden makes you forget everything else. Lorenzo, the primary gatekeeper of this jewel, is a pure delight! We would come back here in an instant and recommend it to all who are looking for something special yet different.

We spent 5 nights in an apar**ent in Cannareggio and needed a hotel for 1 more night. In searching for someplace nearby, I found this lovely property. It is hidden in plain sight on a lovely corner where two canals meet. Pros: beautiful garden in front, large rooms ( ours was the Executive Suite, which had windows opening on the canals), great breakfast, and, as it is on a canal that goes straight to the lagoon, it is very easy ( if a bit expensive) to get to the airport via water taxi. Our suite had a second bedroom and a mini kitchen, which we didn’t need, but if our kids had been with us that would have been a real plus and a great value. The only potential cons for some might be that the rooms are a bit dark and the front desk isn’t manned in the evening. Also no bar. Not an issue for us but just good to know. Overall, we thought it was a great find.
