Dwivedi Hotels Palace on Steps

So this hotel is running bcoz of the location - which is excellent as it overlooks the ganges. Besides that nothing seems to be working for it: It is a Guest House at the price of a hotel. 1. The hotel is "DIRTY" & RUN DOWN- its a heritage property ( so to speak) however a. Filthy stair case ( as if they have not been cleaned for years), b. Stinky halls on ground floor , c. Cob webs in the rooms , d. Our bathroom room door was creaking and broken on the back. e. The fans were dirty as how . The hotel is an old palace - BUT that does'nt mean it that the upkeep can be dirty! 2. Incase you have done the booking by AGODA - they don't want to entertain such guests - the front office ***ager told us that point blank. Rather they really got after us to leave the room at 11 am .. so if u have a later train to catch donot expect an extension of time. There 's not even a decent reception to sit and wait in this case. 3. OLDER Citizens - this hotel has steep stairs and a number of them as all the rooms are on different levels .. hence if you have bad knees - pls stay away . Additionally , you need to walk for 500 mrs from the road to reach the hotel The ghats are also located approx 30 - 40 steps down. 4. BREAKFAST - very average food. 5. COST EFFECTIVENESS - it is a HUGELY OVERPRICED property - with a number of different rooms - which you will never know which is which!! and then the POOR upkeep and MEDIOCRE breakfast. 6. STAFF - Overall the staff which is working is cordial and helpful. NOTE - we absolutely love the location, BUT !

Don’t expect a palace. It’s a heritage property converted into a safe, clean hotel with great service and very helpful staff. The rooftop restaurant is an absolute delight. They served fresh food with amazing views of the river, customised for my food allergies. For check-in and check-out you’ll need help to be guided through the narrow lanes on foot. Once you’re checked-in the access to boat rides, ghats, and Kashi Vishwanath ***dir is superb - all walkable. The staircase is steep for ailing or older people with knee problems. There is no lift. The staff was kind to provide local guidance. They also provide lots of tour options. As a female solo traveler, safety for my primary concern but they took very good care of that. I felt completely safe and secure. Of course, one must maintain decorum according to the sanctity of the city and its culture. They don’t have parking space but there is a public parking space a few mins away if needed.

The property is the worst I have stayed so far, the name and the pictures, the name of the room, Kashi Suites all are misleading, can you imagine a suit without even a closet for keeping clothes, size total is. Not more than 10 Sq mt, the balcony shown in the pictures looks complete but in factual it’s just a railing done on the outer wall, the wash room is so bad that there is no place to keep toiletries in the wash basin, the commode is very low and there is even no exhaust, the bed sheets were torn, the telephone is dirty and broken, the lights need to be put off by getting up and on the main switch board

Additionally, the prompt and thorough laundry service added a layer of convenience to my experience. Housekeeping kept my room very clean and tidy throughout my stay. Plenty of water, toiletries, and making sure everything was in its place further made me feel welcome.

Upon my casual request for him to store some Coca-Cola in the hotel’s refrigerator, he went above and beyond a couple days later by equipping the premium rooms with mini refrigerators. This act of thoughtfulness not only enhanced my stay but also reflected the spirit of the Palace on the Steps: to provide a truly personalized and memorable experience. I am filled with deep gratitude for the staff's dedication to creating such a memorable stay. The Palace on the Steps is not just an accommodation; it is a sanctuary that captures the essence of Varanasi's spiritual heart. I eagerly anticipate my return to this beautiful Haveli, a home away from home in the sacred city of Varanasi.

After a bad experience in a rest house, we moved at Dwived Hotel and was definitely the right choise: the room was simple, but clean ancd comfortable with ac and hot water; at the top floor there isn't the Wi-fi, but you can get it downstairs. Perfect position and amazing view on the Ghat (specially from the restaurant). Inside, there is also a good restaurant with reasonable prices and dishes for every kind of necessity. Definitely, good value for money. Last mention to the owner (and staff also): very helpful and understanding; unfortunately I was sick and he also helped me being flexible with check out time...so ***y thanks!

The location is absolutely amazing, im a photographer and location is always one of the main criteria’s for booking a property. I had a room overlooking the Ganga river ***** with a balcony and for me that is “another day in paradise “ Since the river levels were high, one couldn’t access the property from the ghats, which would have made it easier to reach, but the charm of walking around the lanes of Banaras is fun by itself. However these are narrow and busy lanes so one should be comfortable with walking. The property has a beautiful terrace overlooking the river and one can spend hours at this place enjoying the views. The wifi works well and that’s always helpful. The staff is very accommodative and courteous and they try their best to make sure that you have a good experience. They also recommended a good guide to me who helped me explore the city in a beautiful way. Their service is quick. However this is a old heritage property which has its own nuances in terms of maintenance The food at the restaurant ain’t something which I really enjoyed, as long as you keep your dishes simple to something like Khichdi / Yellow Daal - it’s fine but rest of the stuff lacked taste. The washroom next to the restaurant is dirty and needs maintenance. However the staff in the restaurant are very nice and they are good in service. It’s only the cooks which need some training.

Please check the rooms before checking in.. and paying the rooms..i have been given a room in the terrace and it is really not worth for the charges paid..

Great location right on The Steps within walking distance to the Aarti Ganga although the owner will arrange a boat ride. Actually he will arrange anything you’d like.
