We stayed 3 nights whilst visiting Alton towers at the end of March 24. We have previously stayed at other Premier inn's before and had a great experience, but this stay wasn't just as enjoyable. Pros: - Room larger than some other hotels for similar money. We used the sofa bed for our son and still had plenty of floorspace for open our two suitcases. - Bath in our room so option to shower or bath. - Convenient location to Alton towers- 15mins. - Some staff very friendly. - Very clean throughout. - Good size TV with good choice of free view channels available. - Free car park outside. Cons: -Carpark not very well kept- broken fence, overgrown bushes/hedging encroaching on parking area. Parking spaces are pink stone, but stone has been dislodged etc. over the years causing areas of large puddles where you step out of your car. Perhaps the car park is not the hotels responsibility. - Hotel is split across two separate (completely unconnected) buildings! This meant we were sleeping in one building but had to cross, albeit a small, carpark (approx. 45 metres on google maps) to the other building to get the prepaid breakfast. In a sense this shouldn't be as big a deal as it felt. It felt like you were staying in the overflow accommodation and not the hotel proper. Given the rain and cold temperatures, it meant you had to fully gear up for the weather to just go for breakfast. If I had been aware of this fact alone, I would probably have chosen a different hotel. - Whilst most staff were pleasant, a couple of the ladies serving breakfast were bordering on rude, scolding grown adults for not using the tongs even though the tongs weren't able to grasp the food item. In fact I witnessed the same lady who had scolded someone for not using the tongs to lift a pan au chocolate struggle herself when refilling the tray. She resorted to using her fingers after having just previously reprimanded customers for doing the same. - The breakfast is not as good value as it may appear. We stayed at a Holiday Inn on the days prior to this hotel. The Holiday Inn was marginally cheaper and breakfast included. This Premier Inn breakfast only had a few additional options compare to the Holiday Inn: black pudding is the only thing that comes to mind. The Holiday Inn had a porridge option and orange juice, Premier inn had no porridge and it was a tropical juice option which wasn't that nice. - The TV in the room was good, but the volume limited to 15. I appreciate this is to avoid noise disturbance to other guests, but the volume was soo low that if even the bathroom extractor fan was on, the TV was inaudible. We had to turn on subtitles to help follow the storyline for the film we were watching.
