The location of this hotel is excellent and had good, close, free parking. The reception area was not inviting and receptionist not welcoming. The rooms were very dark but comfortable with a good size balcony. Breakfast was good and staff friendly and helpful

Excellent food and patio at Pharos Restaurant at the Tobermory Princess Hotel. I recommend the Lake Huron whitefish and village salad. The servers were friendly. I also purchased some Greek olive oil to take home as a souvenir. This was my second visit.

Did not stay in this Hotel. Went for dinner on evening at Pharos Restaurant at the hotel. When I arrived I asked for a table for 1 on the patio. The gentleman at the desk asked if I had a reservation, I said no do I need one; he just looked at me and mumbled something. The restaurant was 95% empty. He took me to my table and proved me with menu for food and drink. He returned and took my drink order and then returned for my meal order. All great. He brought me my meal, but that was the last I saw of him until he came back and asked me if everything was okay, I was finished my meal at that point. I had watched my server serve other tables and he always went back about 5-10min after to check on them. SO why is it he didn't treat me with the same respect. While I was at the counter paying for my meal, another lady came in asking for a table for 1 and nobody said to her do you have a reservation, a different person sat her. Just because someone is travelling alone doesn't mean you don't give the same service or treat them different. The world is full of single travelers and we deserve to be treated the same way as you would treat a table of 4. Even though the service was poor I did leave a small tip. He would have received a proper tip if I had better service. Would not return or recommend this restaurant.

5 of us went for lunch - apps, meals & drinks. The restaurant was not busy. All 5 of us were very disappointed in food and specialty drinks - all meals were different. We would not go back. Service was lacking as well - we had to go look for a server a # of times.

Something we’ve never done before, anywhere in the world. We took one look at the check-in area and the condition of the restaurant toilets and made the decision not to stay there and forfeit our booking. If a hotel can’t get those basics absolutely right, then it’s time to look elsewhere. That and the overwhelming smell of cooking. A painful lesson in business is to look at your product through the objective eyes of prospective customers.

Good location and looks OK from the outside. Rooms are small dark and dated, bathroom has seen better days. Beds and linen are tired, but not as tired as I am after a sleepless night due to the noise of the fridge, plumbing from other rooms, voices and the noise of other couples having a very good time! Never stayed in such a noisy hotel in my life.

The hotel in itself is well located and very nice, and the personnel is friendly. The restaurant on site has delicious options and the staff is outstanding. That said, avoid the Bay St cottage! It hasn’t been updated much in the past few decades and has a resolutely creepy vibe. We booked the cottage on the basis of the hotel pics (and with only an exterior pic of the cottage to go by) and we had to switch after a night because no one could sleep and the kids were all creeped out. We stayed in the hotel for the second night and were happy with our rooms. I booked the water view and enjoyed the lovely view.

The restaurant of this hotel is good. But, the front desk woman who was there most of the time was rude at times. If she is the owner, shame on her. If she is staff, perhaps she should not be the face of the hotel. Overall, the experience was below average. I'm not sure how they stay competitive, unless all of the hotels/accommodations are at this level in Tobermory.

We stayed there for 2 nights in May. The exterior of the Princess Hotel is beautiful, what a lovely site to drive up to. The location is very good. The parking is very good. It is within walking distance to everything in Tobermory. The view from outside the hotel is lovely. I think the hotel might be suffering some financial setbacks, or be having staffing issues, as the hotel room we stayed in was not clean in terms of general expectations, and the food in the restaurant was not very good. The owners/managers are friendly. The fridge smelled strongly of fish (the manager said the whole room had before it was cleaned, and kindly gave us baking soda for the fridge) and there were blood stains inside on the comforter not noticeable on check-in, (the front staff was indifferent, did not care, after our stay we were offered $25 off if we stay at the hotel again. Thank you for that gesture). The wifi didn't work, and the hotel kindly reduced our rate by $20 per night. We are grateful for that, it was kind. Friends of ours were staying at the Bruce Anchor motel at the same time, and said the Bruce Anchor motel is very clean, no problems with wifi, and it is less expensive. The room we stayed in at the Princess had a lovely private balcony. Some of the rooms have views and are larger, but might be more costly. There is an elevator for those with luggage. In the restaurant, hardly any customers and the customers beside us were loud and verbally rough on the serving staff, must have been hard for the staff.
