Excellent hotel, with welcoming staff at any point throughout day, from front of house, to bar staff, to cleaners, to breakfast team. free parking, plentiful and tasty breakfast. Spotless room, with good facilities and hot drink options in room. Bar area was spotless to with music and and pool table. Highly recommended and will be returning.

This hotel is in an ideal location, a short walk to the beach and close to both Thurso and John O’Groats if you wanted to visit them too. Rooms are clean and comfy although our bathroom was a little bit on the small side but we made it work. The thing that absolutely makes this hotel worth booking is the staff that work here. Most of them are young adults and they’re a credit to hospitality and to the hotel! Polite, friendly, talkative and engaging, they made our stay all the more enjoyable. The food was also great - my partner is gluten and lactose intolerant and they handled that with absolutely no issues, even letting us store her lactose free products in their fridge. There was also plenty of choice on the menus for her and excellent allergen warnings. Next door to a gin distillery, what more could you want?! Thank you to the Northern Sands - we hope to see you again.

Third visit, very much enjoyed return visit staff and food excellent. Wonderful position for exploring the North Coast. Good parking and ,as said ,all the staff where helpful. Easy drive to the coast and if feeling masochistic could visit John O'Groats.

The room was spacious and very comfortable. Nice location, friendly staff, and a great breakfast. Great bar and outdoor seating area. Close to town with good restaurant choices. Would highly recommend this spot for a short or long stay. Good stuff.

Very welcoming staff and amazing room. The location was perfect. We had dinner in the restaurant and couldn’t fault the food. The breakfast was very hearty and cooked to perfection. If I ever visit the area again I wouldn’t hesitate to book in if there were any vacancies

Forget the 3 star rating. Have stayed twice here now on my way to Orkney. Nice rooms which are warm and comfortable Has a lovely bar area to sit and relax with a beverage or 2 of your favourite tipple. Food is first class and freshly cooked to order. Breakfast is pre ordered the night before With an excellent choice of cereals, fruit and fulled cook breakfast which didn’t dissappoint 😋. Staff are lovely especially Julie who goes out of her way to ensure you have a very enjoyable stay. Will certainly be recommending and using again

My partner had a fantastic mini break with northern sands hotel, from the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome and at home by all the lovely ladies who work there , breakfast was fantastic and we also enjoyed our evening meals.hope to go back in the future.this hotel has given me new faith in Scottish hospitality.

Bed was very comfortable. Extra coffee and milk provided. Towel rack was perfect for showers and cold days. Staff was patient with me on coffee, food preference, locking myself out, and coffee! The location was perfect as a base for our photography tour. Excellent all the way around. A huge thank you to staff!

The hotel was recommended to us and it lived up to the recommendation and more. Ideally located near major nature spots and a local gin distillery next door!! Rooms were spacious,clean and comfy.The team were very helpful and the food was great. We will be definitely going back again.
