The Spread Eagle Hotel

The worst hotel I have stayed in and have stayed in a few The so called suite had two chairs and a table in the downstairs room and a TV on the wall. It was in a poor state with badly marked walls, a failed attempt to repair hole in ceiling and patio doors that had seen better days ! The upstairs bedroom and bathroom were no better! Dirty, poor in quality of furnishings and windows that were either screwed shut or filthy dirty inside and out The bathroom, awful and cleaners need to be trained, monitored or dismissed! I have email the GM who’s answer 2 days later was sarcastic at best although confirmed the hotel needs updating, a refurb and that the appalling breakfast will change when the new chef arrives next week ! Suggested that if I check in with home later in year he will let me know what they have done ! Why would I do that? No apology or offer of full or part refund that I have now requested due to his approach to my concerns Still waiting for him to come back to me after 5 days ! Bloody awful place !

I stayed here for two nights last weekend. For £140 a room per night this was beyond disappointing. The place is tatty, run down and service is beyond poor. My room was dated and grubby, the bathroom is knackered, the windows dirty and scuff marks over everything. I asked for an iron to iron my shirt for the wedding - it was so dirty the stains came off on my shirt!!! When i complained the lady grunted and didnt even apologise. Breakfast was a disaster, no one takes care of the buffet, cleans the tables and the food was burnt and inedible. On day 2, even though we had breakfast included we chose to pay and go elsewhere. I would encourage you not to stay here.

Do not stay here. Room was horrible, carpets were stained, with ants running around. Wallpaper peeling all over the place and the mould in the bathroom was disgusting. Hotel was inexplicably fully booked. My company who arranged this have lodged a formal complaint.

We had a pleasant stay at The Spread Eagle in one of the Garden rooms which are lovely and quiet with a nice outdoor seating area in a secluded garden. The bed was comfortable with nice crisp linen and it was a nice surprise to find a mini fridge in the room with both still and sparkling water in it. Very good location in the very center of Thame. The food in the restaurant was plentiful with pleasant service

Room needs a clean and decoration, dirty walls, furniture old and tired, Toilet handle is a blot! Breakfast was appalling little choice poor customer service from the stff and extra charge for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and two other choices from a menu with 6 options on it!

Shocking! How on earth they think it’s acceptable to put someone in a room like this is beyond me. A single bed when we specify a double, 1930’s decor and the wallpaper almost falling off the wall. We use this place for business very regularly, lord knows why!

Had a fantastic birthday party at the Spread Eagle organised by Erica and her wonderful team. Nothing was too much trouble and it was organised exactly as I wanted. The venue room was lovely, food plentiful and delicious, Richard who managed the evening was really helpful. Erica worked hard and I am enormously grateful. The DJ Dave Cato was great, he catered beautifully for a varied audience and was professional and helpful and great fun. Thank you Dave. Thank you Erica and as this was a first time visit I hope it won’t be my last.

This hotel is located in the centre of Thame, but it is very tired and scruffy. Stayed here for two nights. On checking into the room, we found the shower did not work - turned it in, it worked for 10 secs and went off. Repeated it several times. Not ideal at the end of a long journey. The young lad on reception immediately agreed to our request for different room, albeit smaller, and at a lower rate. He also got us some Prosecco to make up for it. The room we moved too had a comfy super king bed, but the quilt was probably a king size so not big enough. The shower in this room was also poor - the water pressure is so low, it was difficult to get a proper soaking let alone wash your hair. The decor was not great with peeling wallpaper in places. The carpet was very grubby, and looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned for years. After our first night whilst the cleaners changed the towels etc, they didnt make the bed! Breakfast was served in the bar area - also very scruffy and rickety furniture. The coffee was stewed and undrinkable. The fruit on offer consisted of a few bits that looked like leftovers from a previous sitting. The young girl who was the only member of staff on duty’ whilst polite clearly hasn’t been trained in the basics of waiting on table. It’s a great shame, because if this hotel had some decent inves**ent it could be very good. The website description of this place as a ‘boutique hotel’ is somewhat wide of the mark! Needless to say we won’t be back.

Parking was good. But as as guests I had to pay £5. That was the first insult. Room smell was of damp/ musky. Knobs missing of drawers, look clean, but a closer look. It was quite dirty. Room needed a deep clean. 1/2 price voucher for food in the hotel restaurant. Now I know why. Fish and chips were of poor quality, stodgy and difficult to eat. The tomato sauce was inedible. The halloumi burger was more a green/red pepper burger. This meal didn’t get eaten at all. No one queried why there was so much food left, think they were used to it. We didn’t even go to breakfast, the food was that poor. I know it’s an old building, but old buildings can be maintained and clean.
