My wife and I have been loyal members at Choice Hotels for 15 years or more. We haven’t had any problems nor caused any trouble in that time and we were happy overall with our experience. We would like to share with you how badly we were treated recently when all we asked for was to be fair. Last June 2023, anticipating the rush for the total eclipse on April 8th 2024, we booked two nights April 7th and April 8th a room from Choice Hotels at the Comfort Inn in Texarkana Arkansas. Our charge for the room was going to be $88.86 per night plus taxes etc. On March 13th 2024 we received an e-mail cancelling our reservation. The new franchisee Ankur Prashar at Comfort Suites 5420 Crossroads Pkwy Texarkana Arkansas 71854 explained and I will quote him “our hotel is undergoing essential renovations during the time of your planned visit.” We immediately booked another Comfort Inn that was charging $299 each night for the same room accommodation. We called headquarters and were told we were given 3,000 points for our trouble which is equivalent to $30 for retribution for our problem. I called back complaining to everybody to no avail what a pittance that was. I eventually was able to switch to another Comfort Inn in Texas for $250 a night. In summation, their change cost us $300 more ($150 a night) for the same room. Despite the injustice, all we asked for was a couple of free nights instead. We wrote to the CEO of Choice Hotels Patrick Pacious on March 17th who never responded. We again only asked for free nights to compensate. Maybe the new franchisee, Mr. Prashar really had a problem. It is odd that he cancelled a reservation that was eight months old. When we went to observe the eclipse at our new room, we checked on the original hotel of Mr. Prashar and all the rooms were filled and there was NOOOO construction. If he says he thought there would be construction, why didn’t he contacted us to say there wasn’t going to be any construction and we could have your room. Maybe a new franchisee doesn’t have to honor reservations made before he bought the hotel but if there was really going to be construction that didn’t turn out, he could of at least contacted us about the change of plans. Now Mr. Pacious, the CEO, obviously couldn’t care less especially when we offered to take the $300 difference we were out in free rooms. He has all the power over the credits and bonus points. This matter could have been settled easily and with class. It looks like we are screwed at this point of $300 from a company we patronized for over 15 years. So much for loyalty. Of course, since this happened to me and my wife, we’ve been complaining to other people only to hear worse horror stories about the Choice Hotel chain from some of these other people. Since we can’t get justice here, we can at least make the world aware of what kind of organization this is and make people think twice about committing to this hotel chain. As a result of our bad experien
