Hotel is located away from the train station in a very nice peaceful countryside enviroment. It is about 20 mins from the train station, but with our luggage, we grabbed a taxi that cost us slightly less than JPY1200. Hotel does provide free shuttle service to the train station. Hotel has a genuine Japanese feel. Room was very clean with good views of the city. The Hinoki bath tub was a great bonus! Staff in hotel are very helpful. Stayed half-board for 2 nights. Dinner, with Hida beef, on both nights were excellent! We stayed in 6 different hotels during this Japan trip and we would rate this as our best hotel! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we would certainly highly recommend this hotel!

A very traditional Japanese-style B&B in the Okuhida Onsen Nakao area. The location is closer to Shin-Hotaka. It is less crowded and quiet. The owner and his wife are very friendly and can communicate in simple English. They are very proactive in picking up and dropping off at the station. There are 4 indoor soups and 2 outdoor ones, and the toiletries are very complete. You need to walk a short distance outside, wear a hat, soak in the warm soup with a slight sulfur smell in the forest filled with wind and snow, and chat with your loved ones, it is extremely comfortable! It was quite warm inside the house, said to be heated by hot springs. It was a little dry but overall felt very comfortable. Although the facilities are a bit old, they are neatly arranged and clean. The soft warm light, soft background music, and the details of the display cabinet layout make people feel warm and relaxed. We tasted breakfast and dinner, which were very local and quite satisfactory! There are no businesses around. If you want to stay and have a drink after bathing in the soup in the evening, it is recommended to bring your own drinks and snacks. I like the surrounding environment and living atmosphere, and will come again!

This place was unexpected. We wanted to be in the center of town and have Western beds and booking from afar was a bit difficult so we found this online and went for it. We arrived and found a sort of dated but comfortable hotel with lovely staff. It was a bit formal with lots of rules about set menus and what time breakfast would be served. But the instructions were in English and the manager/owner and all the help were very helpful.

I was expecting it because the evaluation was high overall, but I also had an impression that it was still a word of mouth with a low evaluation. Good points: 1. The atmosphere and the atmosphere of the building are very nice. There is a feeling of cleanliness and cleaning is well done. The hot springs have several large baths, outdoor baths and family baths, and the quality of the springs was very good. Each has a different atmosphere and cannot be all entered, so it is entertainment! Both children and adults are very satisfied. Bad points: 1. I'm sorry for the meal, there is nothing special to mention. Gohei mochi, rock fish, and Hoba miso are warmed in the hearth, but none of them warm up ... No, what is this for! I want to plunge in. I'm disappointed that Hida beef is not so delicious, probably because it's a low-ranked one. As for the steak for children, I couldn't bite it forever. It may have been a bad time to go, but anyway, it's in a hurry and I don't have enough people. I had a lot of time to wait in the guided seat but live ... I wonder if it tended to be left unattended because it was a corner room. When I noticed it in the morning and evening, only we remained. To be honest, the person who served me feels that I was tingling because I was busy, and I lose my appetite ... Shouldn't we have a two-part system so that the customer service becomes neglected at peak times? I think meals are an important factor when staying at an inn. Customer service is also important as well as the taste of the meal. 2. 2. Although it is customer service, it is very disappointing as mentioned in other people's reviews. When I was knocking on the door while I was relaxing in the room, there was an employee, what was it? I was thinking. At that time, another employee was not in that room, over there. Both of them left as they were. First of all, don't you apologize? !! Is there nothing wrong with knocking on the guest room? I have no such experience. When I asked something, it was unfriendly, or why did I ask? Even when eating. Perhaps most of the employees had quit a lot in Corona and just entered. Even so ... I wonder if there is a little more education. Overall it's dry. But it was very disappointing because the hardware was good, and it was a rough impression. There are more options for this price, so there is no repeat.
Hotel Associa Takayama Resort (JR-Central Hotels)

We stayed at Hotel Associa Takayama Resort as part of our tour group. We had a spacious twin room on the 15th floor of the Alps Wing which was the largest room of our tour. The room was very comfortable as were the beds. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The resort is on the outskirts of Takayama but there is a shuttle bus into the centre of the city. There are limited restaurants in the hotel and 2 of them were booked out by the time we arrived. We managed to book into the Japanese restaurant and had a delicious meal there. The breakfast buffet didn't have cereal. There was a laundromat on the ground floor which consisted of a number of combined washing machine/dryers which dispensed their own detergent.

Set up a steep little road above the beautiful town of Takayama is the lovely Ryokan Hoshokaku. You’ll be greeted at the door and after removing your shoes, your host will guide you through your stay, meals and the use of the onsen before giving you your key to the room. Please take the opportunity to immerse yourself into this traditional inn. The meals are amazing, possibly the best we ate in all of Japan and the onsen is relaxing & peaceful. Thank you to the wonderful staff for making our stay memorable.
