Situated just a little to the east of the easternmost extent of the Little Rann of Kutch, Rann Riders is a boutique resort that spreads out across a wooded area, with cottages scattered between gravelled pathways, trees filled with birds, and a quiet, soothing peacefulness about it. The property has a swimming pool, lounge (books, games and wifi available in the lounge), a restaurant with fixed buffet meals (mostly North Indian/Gujarati, with occasional forays into Indian Chinese and faux continental), and a naturalist on duty. You can go on nature walks and safaris, plus explore the nearby villages with the resort's assistance. The resort has horse stables (with Kathiawadi race horses), and a shooting range, plus of course there's plenty of scope for birdwatching. We took two safaris, with a very knowledgable naturalist cum driver: saw lots of birds, wild asses, and learnt a lot. Also, packed breakfast and coffee were provided for the morning and evening safaris respectively, making this quite a unique, enjoyable experience. Our cottage was aesthetically decorated with block-printed upholstery, a minimalist look, and large windows overlooking the trees all around. We also had a small and very picturesque verandah where we chose to sit for our coffee or to just laze about and soak in the sun. The resort believes in sustainability, so drinking water is provided in glass bottles rather than disposable plastic bottles. Coffee, tea and sugar are in jars, with a little jar of milk in the small refrigerator in the room. The urban comforts most visitors would be used to, like air-conditioning, a geyser and a flat screen TV, are also in the room. This was a very comfortable, pleasant place to stay, easily the best jungle resort I’ve been to yet in India.
