I've looked at the other reviews for this hotel and to those people who gave this place a "very good" or "excellent" rating, I have to ask: did you stay at the same hotel we did? We were coming off a 14-day tour of the Scottish isles, and Stirling was the last stop before going on to Glasgow for the flight back to the US. This hotel was the low-light of the trip. This is supposedly a three-star hotel (they must be very tiny stars) and the similarly rated hotels in the isles had it all over this supposedly sophisticated big-city establishment. Our room was small, cramped with worn out furniture, lamps with no bulbs, and an overall musty, dusty, very tired feel. The shower was okay but the floor was slippery slick and there was no mat (lawsuit, anyone?). Reception staff was rude, although I must admit one housekeeping person was nice to my wife cheerfully providing her with some plaid ribbon in response to a request. We left early in the morning before breakfast was served so we can't comment on that aspect. The bar was fine although the barman made a disapproving face when I requested a Baileys and soda for my wife. Overall, I'd say that in a city as large as Stirling there have to be better choices. The hotel makes a big deal about Robert Burns having stayed there, but that was long ago; I don't think he'd opt for this place these days.
