"This hotel has a very strict cancellation policy. I had booked a long-term stay through an agent, but it was canceled because the construction approval process was delayed by two weeks, effectively nullifying the point of booking a few nights at this hotel in Bristol for a transitional period.
This was one of those hotels. I tried to cancel or postpone my check-in, but the owner flatly refused. His reasoning was that since I was canceling at the last minute (only two days in advance), the room couldn't be rented out quickly, so he couldn't afford to lose money, no matter the special circumstances. However, the empty room next door was eventually rented out (meaning if he had agreed to a refund, someone else could have filled the spot), and it was even rented to another Chinese person. So, you can draw your own conclusions if he's so insecure about his rooms being rented.
Regarding the room itself, it was quite clean. Although old, the facilities didn't have any annoying noises typical of old houses, and the soundproofing was good. Most of the essential amenities were provided.
This location is suitable for arriving by bus at night. There's a large IKEA and Tesco nearby, but no other businesses, so it's quite dangerous to walk around at night. It's a mid-to-low-income residential area. The sidewalk and bike path are shared. I was standing in the middle of the road waiting for the traffic light, and perhaps I was blocking their way, because two teenagers on bikes (classic teenagers) swore at me. However, a local girl who was also waiting for the light next to me immediately comforted me."
