"We had been staying at location inside the walls of Lucca for a few weeks and needed a 2 night escape. We booked with Residence Arianna so we would be close to Volterra and Siena for some day visiting. Caterina & Fabio have this wonderful, clean and semi modern building about 1/2 way in-between the places we wanted to visit. The apartment we got was on the top floor (unit 10). There is a lift for easy access. The apt itself is great for a few nights. Is very roomy, although the shower is a bit cramped. The kitchen is pretty good, but could use a few extra pans etc. When we asked for a coffee maker, Caterina not only brought us one but also some pretty good coffee. They put on a decent breakfast and there is an onsite restaurant open at dinner time run by Their daughter Arianna and serves up pretty good pasta which we tried one of the nights we were there. And the big bonus is there is a nice large lap pool which we used both days we were there in the hot afternoons - great way to cool off. Highly recommended for creature comforts and location."

"No air conditioning during the heatwave (we were given two fans, but with young children, it wasn't ideal; the excuse was that it wasn't possible to install air conditioning due to building regulations—apparently, portable air conditioners don't exist in Italy), wasps in the orange juice at breakfast, and stale bread served at breakfast. Cleanliness was not exceptional. The pool area was cleaned occasionally. Rustic, yes, but not the charmingly rustic kind you imagine... Visited in summer 2022. The worst holiday accommodation I've ever stayed in."

"Myself and my friends had the most wonderful experience at Hotel Castello in San Rocco a Pilli. We were a large party of seven, travelling from London to Tuscany (some of us for the first time). Upon arrival, we were pleasantly greeted by the owner Marinella - who provided a service for us that was of the highest standard. Equally, when pre-planning parts of our itinerary (from London), the receptionist Valeria couldn't have been anymore helpful! Unfortunately, whilst we pre-booked, our taxi company (in Siena) let us down, Marinella and Valeria went out of their way to resolve the situation - this was far and beyond what we expected and we're eternally grateful! It's a clean, peaceful and beautiful place to stay, with stunning views - we're already looking forward to our next visit already!"
