First of all i booked this hotel two weeks ago, because the title was Zhongmin Mercure hotel....IT IS NOT A MERCURE hotel. (and it seems they updated the name on Trip.com now/ I guess someone reported the lie)
Overall the room furnishings are not bad, but the shower was old and totally black with mold. ( I did request for the staff to clean it and they did, so its just about no effort or cleansers used to reach any normal level of hygiene as usual in 90% of Chinese hotels, even 5 stars )The sink is located 50cm to the right of the mirror for some odd reason, so when brushing your teeth or whatever, you have to look in the mirror, then move back to the left to get to the sink.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, but didn't speak a word of English. The older woman working in the buffet restaurant went out of her way to serve me coffee and try to talk to me for 3 days, but the food is not worth the extra surcharge (even though its like $2.00) ...better to eat breakfast at SunFat HK restaurant around the corner.
The walls were paper thin, and I didnt sleep the 4 nights I stayed in the property, either due to neighbors carrying on a screaming fest (normal Chinese level talking, for the most part) till 4am one night in the room behind my bed, to hearing the same room snoring, or even love making from the room on the other side.
The neighborhood is an old area of Luohu, which is one of the oldest districts of Shenzhen, and though the hotel is right by Exit A of the Xiangxicun metro station (line 9), it is not convenient to get to most areas of Shenzhen as line 9 doesnt go to any major area of Shenzhen, and you have to change metro lines to go anywhere of any importance.
Its about 20 minutes walk to the Luohu / Hong Kong border, or 10 mins by rental bicycle, or 15 minutes (25rmb by taxi)
Overall, I highly recommend NOT booking this property at any price
