House on Chase Creek

This charming house couldn’t be in a better location! We really enjoyed bird watching as we woke up to find the owner had set up a telescope as well as bird books on the front porch! The rooms were comfortable and it was easy to get to the beach as well as to the golf course on bike or foot! Wine shop and restaurants were all convenient! Can’t wait to go back!

This was our second visit to House on Chase Creek, the first being in 2018. We stayed a couple nights at the very beginning of July as to avoid the rush of summer tourists. We were the only ones staying here those couple of days, so it was very very quiet! While we came to SI to bike around the island, it was so peaceful spending mornings sipping tea on the front porch swing overlooking the creek. Bill was a wonderful host as always, and his pup was a welcome form of entertainment! He was very flexible and accommodating. Coffee and tea are available 24/7. Breakfast is no longer served since the pandemic, but there are so many good breakfast options less than five minutes' walking distance. Bill has local restaurant menus out and is a wealth of knowledge regarding the dining options around the island. Our room was comfortable and clean, and the air conditioning was certainly appreciated! The bathroom was spacious in our room and we had a nice view of the creek. This is definitely our go-to lodging for when we visit Shelter Island, and we look forward to our next stay at House on Chase Creek!

We stayed at the House on Chase Creek last weekend. The house is exactly as in the photographs, cosy, attention to detail. It feels like your own beach house, from the pictures on the walls, to the knick-knacks, to the rocking chair on the porch, squeaky wooden staircase included (which I personally loved). Bill was a very attentive and gracious host. Without our asking him, he upgraded us to the room we had booked and we, therefore, stayed in the river view room, a real treat. In addition, he recommended places to have breakfast and dinner, all very good and close to the house. There are cups, coffee and even hot chocolate available for guests. We immediately took advantage of this and took a seat on the two red chairs on the riverbank with our two mugs of coffee. If you are looking for a break from the hectic city life, Shelter Island is the perfect place and House on Chase Creek is the perfect place to relax.

I went to the House on Chase Creek by myself for the weekend, hoping that the remote location (only accessible via ferry!) would help me focus. I was right! You get a great deal for your money here, and the proprietor Bill is friendly and helpful, even giving me a ride to the ferry on my checkout date because it was raining. The rooms are outfitted with mini fridges and the downstairs kitchen has a microwave, which was helpful for me — I didn't want to spend a fortune on dining out and was able to fit the contents of a small cooler in my fridge instead. On top of this, my bed was incredibly comfortable and my room even had a bathtub. I had a stunning view of the creek and some of its bird inhabitants, which was an added bonus for me as a birdwatcher. Highly recommend this place during the off-season — the island is quiet, but lots of places are still open and there's plenty of good outdoorsy stuff to do, on top of its being a great place for me to get away and write. I'll be back for sure!

We just wrapped up a weekend stay at the house on chase creek and can’t say enough good things about it! We stayed in the Queen room and it was perfect. The value that you get for the price here is incredible - this was by far one of the most affordable places on the island during the summer months, and it was absolutely lovely. If you’re looking at photos on TripAdvisor, you should know that the beds/linens/decor of the rooms have all been modernized since whenever those were taken - the bed was super nice and comfortable with great bedding. We didn’t have a car and could walk everywhere within 10 mins (the ferry, into town, the beach, dinners, etc). Bill, the owner, was so kind and even offered to drive us to lunch our first day. If you’re thinking about staying here, do it!! you won’t regret it.

Can’t wait to go back. The House on Chase Creek was an experience that memories are made of. If you are looking for a tranquil and serene getaway, this is the place. Bill, the very knowledgeable and entertaining host, is welcoming and quick to give helpful info that will assist you in navigating the island. Our trip to Shelter Island and our stay at The House on the Creek are a definite 10 out of 10 and hopefully a trip we will make again.
