I grew up in Selma, during what I consider it's more vibrant and prosperous years. The city appeared to be in a much better situation and many big businesses [such as hotels] were doing well and being well-maintained. Nowadays, this is not the case so much. My heart gets heavy with sadness when I look at this town and see so many of the places I loved to visit either run down or no longer in existence. However, there are a few places still standing, doing this town proud and keeping the area as ”alive” and thriving as it can possibly be, given the circumstances. One such place is the Holiday Inn Express. This property sits in a convenient location, off Hwy 80/Highland Avenue. It is very nearby the Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Within a few miles is a variety of fast-food restaurants and shopping centers. Also a short drive away are popular tourist sites, such as the Historic Interpretive Center, Edmond Pettus Bridge, and the National Voting Rights Museum. The rooms and suites are lovely-looking and spacious. The recent renovations are being kept up and cleanliness is an obvious priority here. There's an outdoor pool, an on-site mini mart and more. The staff is extremely courteous, friendly and helpful. Within the 1st hour of our stay, we accidentally lost our keycard in the card reader slot and had to ask for assistance retrieving the card and regaining entry into our room. In the mornings, there is a wonderful complimentary breakfast area with a variety of food options, both hot and cold. On July 10, Brittany did a fantastic job setting up and keeping items stocked. It takes a load off, mentally, when I don't have to worry about a family meal time. It's a financial benefit too. My family has been staying here for over 10 years and plan to continue to patronize this business as one that values their customers and makes necessary investments to keep standing.
