It's rare for us to look forward to breakfast while on vacation. We aren't breakfast people, but the Inn of the Turquoise Bear is a treasure in this and other aspects. You'd be hard pressed to find a better way to start each day in Santa Fe. The ample and innovative breakfast is prepared every morning by the owner or innkeeper with attention to detail, love, and care. There is something for everyone. They took great care to prepare different innovative and delicious vegan meals for each morning of my 3 day stay. The common rooms are great places to relax and chat with other guests, read, or immerse yourself in the beauty of this historic estate. Fresh cookies, pie or other baked goods along with fruit, beverages, and other snacks are always available to nourish you whatever the time of day or night. Our bedroom was user friendly, inviting, and tastefully decorated. Little touches make you wish you could know more about the estate and its history. It feels as though the spaces retain the spirit of the famous authors, artists, and public figures who've stayed here in times past. The history of the property is fascinating, and if you are looking for artistic or literary inspiration, you may enjoy the imagined company of the writers and artists who stayed here frequently as guests of Witter Bynner. Legends for whom Santa Fe, and this house was a frequent destination to feed their creativity or restore their health - D. H. Lawrence, Georgia O'Keeffe, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Ansel Adams, Willa Cather, and more. You're only a 10 minute walk from the historic plaza, but the inn and its gardens feel like a quiet mountain top retreat away from town and all it offers - a place you'll want to return to at the end of the day.
