The Wheatsheaf Hotel, Sandbach

Plus points: Good breakfast. Quality ingredients and well cooked. Friendly and prompt welcome. Convenient central location. Not cheap but good value for money. Negative points: Room was above the bar and the noise seeped through to some extent. Not a big problem but not ideal. On the morning we were due to leave we were told we'd need to move our car before 10am because the lines were being repainted. I can't believe this wasn't known about the day before and didn't appreciate having to interrupt my breakfast to move it.

What a lovely hotel! Good location Easy parking Spotlessly clean Rooms are lovely Bed is one of the best I’ve ever slept in! Food is superb Open fire in the bar! Love it! The staff are always great! Amy and Liam in particular were really nice. Friendly, professional, welcoming, ensured we had a relaxing and enjoyable time.

We paid for a double superior room however the room itself was very small. The bathroom with the roll top bath was bigger. The lamp on the desk didn’t work and there was no milk for the hot drinks. The room itself was extremely extremely hot and with one fan it just didn’t make a difference so we didnt have a good night sleep at all. The room and hotel itself were lovely and very nicely done out.

A really prefect stay in this gem - we stayed with family for an event the following day and were made to feel extremely welcome. The room was beautifully appointed and, although noisy from the road, the ear plugs provided did the trick, as did the electric black out blinds. This was a high quality stay for a reasonable price- given we paid more for a stay in the drab and tired Watford Hilton the previous weekend. We will be back!

All the staff we encountered were friendly and efficient, we loved the decor in the hotel, bar area and room so first impressions were good. The big bed was extremely comfortable, but the room had little natural day light and the room had an extremely small window. The carpet in the room had a couple of small stains on it so hard wood flooring might be better, the over bedspread also had a small dark stain on it. The shower leaked all over the floor and the bathroom tiles were extremely slippery and dangerous after one short careful shower. One of the bathroom tiles was loose and it felt unstable and the grouted cracks between the tiles didn’t look the cleanest. Maybe consider the flooring and showers in these rooms as well as providing free bathroom slippers. Also the stairs were extremely steep so anyone with mobility issues might struggle. Car parking is tight and limited. Our room in the annexe was uncomfortably warm and it wasn’t a particularly hot night and the room had a fowl smell on entry. We later discovered it was the scented oil sticks in the room. Breakfast was fine.

Excellent Hotel, immaculately clean, beds very comfortable, the manager and all his staff were welcoming, friendly, and did everything to ensure we had a brilliant stay. Would recommend Sandbach as a great place to visit, plenty of historic attractions and easy access to Chester and nearby towns.
