The hotel is in one of San Francisco's unique neighborhoods, just a few hundred feet from the original Mission San Francisco de Asís (aka Mission Dolores) and a five minute walk to the BART station, where many unusual characters and homeless people congregate (I found them all to be harmless and many friendly). Many good restaurants nearby. The hotel stairwells and corridors are not kept clean or updated (i.e. vacuumed or painted) when needed, but the room was clean although quite compact. Toiletries provided were minimal (shampoo and bar soap), but that was ok. There is a small refrigerator, microwave, and wall mounted TV but no safe, so I carried my camera, passport, and laptop with me when I went out. The manager was very responsive when I complained about noise in an adjoining room at midnight (There are no phones in the rooms so I had to go to the night counter). The manager was kind to let me check in an hour early, which I appreciated. All in all, it was a pleasant stay but I was charged $20 more than what was shown on the ******* check in page, making the stay cost more money than the value. I am not pleased about that.
