We spent 8 nights at Casa Morada and could not have been happier with our hotel choice in San Cristobal. It's a totally charming place and the friendly staff and exceptional restaurant exceeded our expectations. All the previous positive reviews are true. We had two beautiful junior suites which were spacious, nicely furnished, and had wood burning fireplaces and balconies overlooking a delightful courtyard. Also nicely equipped kitchens with coffee makers, microwave ovens and surprisingly large refrigerators. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were spacious with plenty of storage space and safes. Special kudos to Gabriella (Gabby), the concierge who went above and beyond to help us arrange a short notice 3 day trip to Palenque, Zaxchilan, Bonampak, the Lacandon jungle, Agua Azul and 2 other beautiful waterfall areas and to our driver, Alfonso, who took us to those places. Also special thanks to the excellent cook and staff at the hotel restaurant, who amazed us at every meal we ate there even though we were practically the only guests at the time. We had a lot of great mole sauce while we were in Chiapas, but the mole at Casa Morada's restaurant was the best we have ever tasted. Do note that Casa Morada is a good 10 minute or so walk to the Zocalo and at the top of a hill. And the narrow stone sidewalks throughout San Cristobal are not the easiest to traverse. So the hotel (and San Cristobal in general) may not be ideal for mobility-impaired travelers.
