Selous River Camp

Located right on the Rufiji river, the Selous river camp is a fabulous eco lodge with spectacular views. The whole team is very friendly and easygoing, accommodation are mud huts but we enjoyed to have our private bathrooms. The cook is great, all our meals were absolutely delicious and it was a pleasure to discuss with the staff. If you want to get a very special experience with nature, do not hesitate, the team there takes care of everything you need. A place to be!

Because of the Covid closures I had to rely on older reviews and extensive correspondence with the staff. Both impressed me deeply and I could not be more delighted with our decision to visit the Selous river camp. The devotion and warmth of the team will never be forgotten. The character of the camp, attention to our special requests, the security, and the thoughtfully arranged land and river safaris with top notch and enthusiastic guides together made this a wonderful and memorable experience. The are several lodging choices in Selous but for those of us who care about personality and a genuinely personal experience there could not be a better choice. Have a look at the photo below. Where have you ever stayed where the entire staff comes to see you off? Hugs, kisses, and the most emotional farewell in my life. If you like the larger lodges with a less personal connection that's fine, but if you want to connect with both magnificent animals and the human heart, this is the place for you! (Not to mention that the chef is on top of his game as well!)

The camp is so beautiful, the location is incredible, and the food was delicious. The rooms and facilities were super clean and comfortable. The thing that made this place incredible was the staff. From booking our stay to leaving, the whole experience was seamless - they did their utmost to help us with anything and everything. Frank is the friendliest, most helpful barman - always asking how your day was and checking if you need anything else. Sultan and Dula were lovely and always helping to arrange all the small things that made the trip so special. It was my friend's birthday and Sultan arranged a birthday cake, everyone was singing and dancing - it was truly such a sweet surprise. We booked a package deal through the camp including all food, accommodation and safari. Our safari guide was Songoro, and he was so good we requested him for all of our game drives. He was super knowledgeable and incredibly friendly, he went out of his way to show us as much as he could of the park and to track down specific animals we wanted to see - could not recommend him enough. We will 100% be back to stay at the Selous River Camp, was our favourite part of our entire Tanzania trip.

Selous river camp is such a lovely escape. Wonderful location, right on the river with magical sunsets. The camp is simple & clean, all about highlighting the beautiful surroundings. Delish food & lovely, helpful staff. Cannot wait to come back again.

We stayed at the selous river camp for 3 nights, and we have to say, the location is stunning and the food was good. However, on the last night, when we went to the toilet (3 minutes maximum) somebody went into our tent and stole our money. The only footprints around in the sand were those of us and the guards... The reaction of the management was less than ideal, acting like they didn't believe us and being unreachable after promising to stay in contact. We have not received any compensation for what has happened. This experience has really ruined our holiday and we hope nobody else will be a victim of robbery here in this unsafe place! We strongly recommend to go to any other place.

This is a beautiful location and a beautiful camp. The riverside setting for the bar is perfectly sited on a bend in the river, with long views right on the border of the park looking into pure wilderness. Probably the best location and views you can get without staying inside the park - which we didn't want to do as some of our group were on a tight budget. They offer the most perfect Selous day in the park with a morning of really well managed game driving in the park, then a transfer to a boat and an afternoon river safari slowly meandering back to Camp. Stunning. We didn't see another soul for hours - just amazing birdlife - fish eagles, storks, herons, bee eaters everywhere you looked. The River Camp looked after us so well - very attentive, great company, cold drinks, and we slept so well every night.

We traveled from the Dar with our children and nephew, and our Slow Safari experience was exceptional. Being so close to the park allowed us to enjoy a half-day game drive with knowledgeable guides who made the experience unforgettable. Transitioning to a river safari and meandering back to the lodge was incredible – we didn't see another soul for four hours. The bird life and close encounters with crocs, hippos, and turtles were heart-stopping. The lodge itself was perfect. Our room was fantastic, featuring a lovely shower room. Our nephew, who was on a budget, was very happy with his camping experience. The kids were thrilled throughout the trip, and the lodge's incredible views of the river added to the tranquil and serene atmosphere. I highly recommend this safari. It's only a few hours from Dar. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Selous has been on the wish list for a long time and it didn't disappoint. We came in search of the elusive African Wild Dogs and were fortunate to find them on our last game drive in the park - absolutely fantastic. Saw lots of other wildlife, including many birds along the river. Our guide Anton was excellent and all staff seemed very knowledgeable about Selous/Nyerere NP. The Selous River Camp team are very welcoming and provide real African hospitality in a tranquil setting by the Rufiji River. The camp is rustic and comfortable, fitting in well with the natural environment. A great safari choice in this lesser visited region of Tanzania. Look forward to returning!

the Safari has been amazing, game drive gorgeus, we have seen a lot of animals! the guide was really good, jeep confortable and everything well organised! The camp is wild and nice, beautiful location for dinner and a small swimming pool excellent to relax after the game drive. Food really good and the guys at the camp are really kind and helpful! Special mention to the camp manager who arrange for us a super solution last minute to go to zanzibar by plane! thank you all guys!
