We stayed 3 nights here, base cost was $2,254.88 before another approximately $700 in fees and two excursions. After reading reviews and a friend's recommendation, we chose Flora. It is my opinion that the hotel staff - but for concierge Stephanie - does not know how to read guests. Upon arrival, we were welcomed into complete chaos in the lobby: kids screaming, 3 staff members working on 1 guest, 2 staff members checking in another while we and others waited. We were never told about the hotel's facilities: where breakfast was served, gym, etc. Our $751 a night room was claustrophobic and next to the elevator! The toilet abuted the sink. You have to walk sideways around the bed. We didn't complain about the room but I wish we had. At 4 in the morning it sounded like people were moving furniture on the floor above; we did complain about that and the response was: "At 4 in the morning" with an expression like "that cannot be." Nothing came of that. Just a dreadful experience! ONLY One concierge, Stephanie, recommended an excellent restaurant and one excellent excursion (the Coliseum; I didn't care for the guide who handled the Vatican excursion that was arranged by the hotel.) The second night the next concierge recommended a restaurant that was an American tourist trap. We had an appetizer and left and went back and asked for a better restaurant. (A family member here in the states, NYC, is a celebrity chef, originally from Italy, and we don't go to Italy to have subpar food.). The second restaurant he recommended was fine. On the third night, yet another concierge was at the desk and recommended another tourist trap restaurant with subpar pasta. I just left my dish. That was our last night in Rome so I was disappointed to end our stay on that note. You would have thought the concierge from the night before would have made a note not to send this particular guest to another subpar restaurant filled with tourists. As for their doormen, one morning the doorman called a taxi for us. For some reason he told us the name of the driver and the car number. He looked at me and was very specific about this. He cab driver charged us triple the cost. When I got back that night I mentioned it to another doorman and it became obvious they are aware of this cab driver doing this. He described him to a tee and said "You should have called the police."
Also, we went to the hotel bar. Not impressed with their selections. So the Marriott Grand Flora was one big disappointment. I would not stay here unless they would guarantee me a nicer room and learn how to read their guests.
