The hotel has been recently renovated and is clean, new and comfortable. The dining room prepares their own food and is on the whole very good. The wait staff and assistant manager were very professional and service oriented. We had a negative experience with the owner or overall manager, Mr. Joshi. We booked thru *******. When our Blue Badge guide attempted to be helpful and drop off our bags in advance of our evening arrival, Mr. Joshi was at the front desk and refused to accept the bags. He said we had booked on ******* and he had had no credit card information on us so he could not accept our bags. Our guide reached out and said Mr. Joshi refused to talk with us, and had walked away from him. A confirmation email we received stated we could leave our bags if we arrived before regular check in time.
Fortunately, our guide was service oriented and went above and beyond to take care of our bags. He drove back to Highclere Castle, worked out for our bags to be locked away by the gate guard, and contacted our taxi driver scheduled to pick us up.
It was unfortunate as Mr. Joshi marred an otherwise pleasant expereince presumably because we booked thru *******!
