HI Munich Park Youth Hostel

Location slightly inconvenient to reach, as typical for German Youth Hostels, but in a beautifully quiet residential neighbourhood near parkland. Check-in is efficient and very professional if not necessarily attentive. The building is 100% functional (even if you do like functional buildings, this one might be an overkill) and the layout is complex, so finding your room demands a little focus. You have to make your own bed, which is fine, but using flat lower sheets, not valanced ones, which is a lot harder and tends to produce a less comfortable bed anyway -it makes me wonder how much money they're saving by using flat sheets, specially since a private single room costs €64-€79 per night. The automatic self-service pizza machine, which I had been looking forward to, has been removed nowadays, very sadly -pizzas can still be bought at the bistro till 22:00 via human service, and they're good, but a lot less fun. Adequate breakfast buffet. All things considered, a pricey place to stay, specially in view of the very simple setup and the fact that there are Youth Hostels not far from Munich in Dachau and Pullach. Don't ask front desk for a quote, because the online prices are significantly lower.

Spent 4 nights in Muenchen Park with husband and 4 children. We were given a room with two separate rooms within in with a shower, separate bathroom with another shower and a sink in one of the rooms which was great. Room was on the ground floor and overlooked the lovely outdoor space so kids were able to run in and out to play in the garden which was great. Outdoor space was fantastic with playground, giant chess, table tennis, and some chickens too! Although it's about 6 U bahn stops from the centre of Munich, the train station is only down the road and the hostel is in a lovely neighbourhood so in the evening times we ate locally. We were about a 15/20 minute walk from an outdoor natural swimming pool which the kids loved. The zoo is within walking distance too. We stayed in lots of different accomodation types during our two week holiday and the only criticism we had about this youth hostel was that there are no blinds on the windows and curtains are very light so as soon as the sun came up the rooms were bright. Would certainly recommend for a family stay - kids loved it. Breakfast included in price.

Es wäre eigentlich eine schöne Herberge aber es war unglaublich laut aufgrund wirklich Dauer brüllender Schulklassen. Ich meine echt brüllend. Da sollte die Herbergsaufsicht wirklich etwas unternehmen. Aber sie haben nur die Schultern gezuckt. Etwas Ruhe könnten die schon machen vor allen Dingen, wenn sich der Lärm über Stunden und Tage hinzieht.

Auf der Suche nach bezahlbarer Unterkunft in München sind wir als 4-köpfige Familie hier fündig geworden. Die Jugendherberge liegt super in einer grünen Nachbarschaft mit kostenlosen Parkplätzen. Von der Innenstadt sind es nur wenige Minuten mit der U-Bahn. Da die JH neben dem Zoo liegt, waren wir natürlich auch dort. Die Zimmer selbst sind schlicht (Stockbetten), aber sauber und funktional. Frühstück war gut. Ein Highlight sind die tollen Spielezimmer für Kinder (auf verschiedene Altersgruppen verteilt, sogar für Kleinkinder was dabei).

Wir waren nur für 2 Übernachtungen auf der Durchreise dort. Für 4 - 5 Nächte wäre die Unterkunft durchaus o.k., länger aber eher nicht. Auch wenn ich schon moderne Jugendherbergen gesehen habe, kann man das durchaus mal machen. Die Zimmer sind klein und alt, aber in Ordnung. Dusche und WC ist am Zimmer, an der Rezeption ist fast immer jemand. Die Mitarbeiter/innen wirkten manchmal gelangweilt, waren jedoch immer nett. Die Lage ist gut, insofern man nicht mitten im Zentrum sein möchte. Die Isar und der Tierpark sind direkt um die Ecke, sowie auch Biergarten, Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Das Frühstücksbuffet war reichhaltig, aber nicht so gut wie bei anderen Herbergen, in denen wir bereits waren, leider waren auch die Brötchen an beiden Tagen trocken (älter). In der Herberge gibt es viele Freizeitmöglichkeiten (Tischkicker, Tischtennis, Gesellschaftsspiele).
