TreeHouse Hotel is a dream. After a looonnnng day of travel (flight, rental car fiasco, interminable drive) it was a pleasure to arrive here and be warmly greeted by Sunita and staff. As you walk through the door it's like entering the Secret Garden. You would never guess that behind the plain stucco walls of this nondescript street lies an oasis of trees, pools, beautiful furnishings and tiles, and a cool breeze. What a haven. The room was absolutely perfect - huge comfortable king bed, tons of storage space, wooden shutters that opened out to a balcony overlooking the courtyard, plush robes. The hotel would be at home in the pages of Architectural Digest. It was tempting to spend the whole day enjoying this space! The staff were friendly and helpful, and asked if they could assist with anything. On our final morning, they packed us a small bag with some snacks for the road and a sweet handwritten note that made us smile. Sunita has a really interesting life story and a multi-cultural, world-traveling background, which has definitely made its way into the design and experience of this hotel, and is to the benefit to her guests. Sunita also owns the cafe Pan & Køf.feé next door, which has a similarly lovely vibe with delicious food, homemade pastries and coffee drinks, and is run by an efficient and friendly team of young local women. If I go back to Merida it will be to visit this amazing spot. The prices might be on the high end for Merida, but are far less than you would expect to spend in most locales for this level of atmosphere and service.
