Normally choose 4-4 1/2 star accomodation , but in some quainter NZ rural towns, ya just go with the flow. Maple Lodge motel is a drift back in time , but a wonderful one at that. Nicely located to both the town and the Matamata-TeAroha cycle trail , which was the our reason for our stay in Matamata. Booked directly with the motelier who was very helpful, and entertaining and gave us a great tip on where to dine in Matamata, newly opened Sofra Meditteranean restaurant , will do another review separately. The motel is nicely distanced from the main highway, iwas probably built in the 70's , inter tenancy masonry block walls off that area. We had a studio- generously and very comfy bed, with comfy soft pillows, good air con, all ya needs for a one nite stopver and being no.9 fairly quiet. After a long and warm ride was nice to come back and have a dip in the pool. We both njoyed our stay here and big ups to our wonderful host Fiona. So if ya doing the trail and need a nice and comfy stay - try The Maple Lodge
