Aarunya Nature Resort was a wonderful experience. Nestled in the forested hills north of Kandy you really do feel a part of nature, within 5 minutes of checking into our room we were watching birds, lizards and monkeys in the surrounding trees from our balcony. We stayed 5 nights in the Sky Tented room with its private infinity pool that had the most amazing view across the valley and forests. The resort is lovely. It was smaller than I was expecting, but that gives it a personal and intermit feel. The staff couldn’t be more attentive and helpful. The dinning experiences were delightful and after informing the resort, when I booked, that both me and my husband had vegan dietary requirements the chef and staff met the challenge with enthusiasm and smiles and were able to serve us up delicious and interesting (veganised) local dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is very much appreciated as we know how this can be quite an effort. The elephant excursion we booked through the resort was incredible, with an informative guide and great driver. It was also simple to book a car and driver at the resort to take us down to Kandy Royal Botanic Gardens, which was a surprisingly delightful way to spend a morning without having to travel too far. We were also taken on a nature walk through the resort’s garden where we were shown spices, fruit and the local abundant bird life. Our only regret was that we didn’t book more days there as we passed up a few of the other interesting excursions on offer so as we could spend some more relaxing time enjoying the resort and it’s tranquility.

Beautiful, small, traditional-style hotel. We were the only guests for 2 nights and had been given a room upgrade so felt very special. Food was great, the service was excellent and the cocktails were amazing! It was the rainy season so there was no chance to use the pool, but it looked lovely. My only regret is that I didn't buy some of the toiletries from the bathroom when I had the chance. They were absolutely gorgeous, particularly the hair conditioner.

The reserved room bedroom has a loft that can sleep 3-4 people. The public areas and rooms are well decorated and maintained. The location is not far from the city center, but close to the road and railway. It is noisy at other times except at night. The hot water switch was hidden in the closet and was not turned on when checking in. There were no additional instructions. The front desk got off work at 10pm and could not be contacted, so I had to take a cold shower. There was a small gecko in the bathtub. Except for the soup, dinner was pretty unpalatable. The two types of fish I ordered were overcooked, dry, bitter, and maybe burnt. When I first checked in at 2 pm, I wanted to have laundry delivered to me. I was told that if I picked it up before departure the next morning, there would be an additional fee. However, I checked into another hotel of the same brand the day before and had laundry delivered at 10 pm the next morning before checking out. Washing, drying and ironing are done for free. What’s also strange is that the front desk helps you fill out the satisfaction survey feedback when leaving the store and asks you to sign it, while the previous one asked you to fill it out realistically. When you see the high score, you are also asked to provide suggestions for improvement. The difference in service awareness is evident.

We stayed in the spacious and pristine King Suite. We loved the delicious food, especially the rice & curry and tropical fruit. The hotel is set in a peaceful and beautiful oasis with a lovely view. All of the staff members, including the housekeeping staff, were very kind and attentive. Our housekeeper even made elaborate towel sculptures of Sri Lankan animals. Bravo!

The Elephant Stables was the highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka! The hotel is nestled in the hills above Kandy city, making it very peaceful and relaxing, but within a short distance to all the cities attractions. The view from the garden and infinity pool is spectacular, and we wish we had had more time to enjoy the property. The staff is what makes this place so amazing - they are so friendly and attentive, with the food being the best we’ve had in all Sri Lanka. Don’t skip out on the dinner menu and ensure you have time to enjoy their delicious breakfast. We can’t wait to recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Kandy.

This is not our first stay at the hotel. This was our 3rd or 4th visit and it is the last for sure due to their poor customer handling and management. I must say that our previous stays were fabulous and i have made positive reviews in TripAdvisor for those. However, this time most of the staff are new to us and not so friendly and caring as the ones who were there earlier starting from the front office. They just don't care, I don't know if its because we are local travellers. On the other hand, the ”amberella” welcome drink is awesome as always. We stayed in a Duplex as there were 4 adults and my 9 month old baby. The rooms were clean and spacious. The living area was giving a calming vibe and had the same look as their other villas we have stayes before. Our baby, husband and I were in the upstair room and when we entered the room is was heated up and the air conditioner was not working properly. It was so uncomfortable so we called the front office and they sent a team to repair. It was taking alot of time so we requested for another room as our baby was feeling tired and needed a nap. Plus, they had adequate rooms vacant and even had Duplex category rooms available too. Still, they refused to shift us to another room so we kept the baby in the ground floor room. The repair took around 2 hours! And then we went to the room and the air conditioner was working. Yet, we were not able to have a nap and relax as we had to go out to Anuradhapura which is the main reason for our visit. So we came back at around 9.30pm and the air conditioner was not working again. Again the same drill, a team came, inspected and told us they need to repair again and it was 11.45pm when they said this. We refused because we were already exhausted as needed to sleep. Also, now, at 11.45 at night they are asking us if we can move to another room (Duplex category). They had vacant Duplex category rooms all this time and in the moddle of the night they are asking us to shift. In my head I was bursting but we were all too tired to keep arguing or leaving the useless place so we stayed in the same Duplex room just till morning. Early morning we left the hotel without breakfast eventhough we had paid for full board. They charged us the whole amount and invoiced for the additional food as well as mini bar (just mentioned this if not someone could think that they must've given a discount or wave-off). So we paid almost 500USD just for one night for this drama. We will never go back to this hotel and not at all recommend. I guess the main issue was poor management of the situation and it shows how poor the hotel management is. We were in Duplex 3 (Kohomba). This hotel staff or management will never care about the customer if something goes wrong and lacks hospitality. Afterall, while we were having our breakfast we got a call from the general manager of the hotel and he apologized but I think it is too late as we have already left their property. The old five-star hotel is located on the Mahaweli River, the mother river of Sri Lanka. It is a must-have hotel for Kandy people to get married. The British service standard is very good. Compared with other Sri Lankan hotels, the check-in and check-out are very fast. The software service makes up for the old facilities deficiencies, it is recommended

I had an excellent experience with my stay in Amaya, a beautiful place to relax and yummy buffet breakfast with many regional food to choose. The room was definitely the biggest I’ve ever been and very clean. I would definitely recommend and come back again

The concept of the hotel as a retreat is very nice. Huuuge property with beautiful nature everywhere you look, which you can explore by the free-to-use bikes they offer. The view from our room into the nature and to tge mountain was beautiful. We liked the architecture of the rooms and the restaurant area with the window facades. We also liked that there was no music in the restaurant area to be able to enjoy the sound of the wind, trees and animals (especially birds). Also, as the hotel has only nine rooms in total, you have a lot of privacy. Actually my friend and I have only seen two other guests one time at dinner but had the pool all to ourselves (but we have to say that we have been there during low season). The staff of the hotel is very friendly and attentive. If you have any wishes/needs they are happy to assist you with anything (e.g. the FO manager helped us to book the train from Kandy to Ella). The best feature of the hotel for us was the food, which was included in our room price for 2 nights. For breakfast they have a Sri Lankan option and a western option (we chose the latter and enjoyed omelette and nice fruits and sweets). Dinner was excellent the two nights. Well-thought 4 course menus that are changing every day, including starter, soup, main course and desert. Every course was a gusto. Also they cook a lot with their own grown plants from the garden and you can really taste the difference between these fresh nutritious meals and the frozen fish and vegetables in Germany. We really LOVED the food. The only thing we would improve is the maintenance of the hotel. The walls, windows and the pool could be cleaner. Also the sun loungers could be renewed as well as the bikes and the roof covers. If maintenance and restoration in the hotel would be improved, it is without doubt an amazing place. Just a little tip on the side: the time we were there it was very windy, especially during the night. The wind was very loud and the roof cover made noises due to the wind. So if you are noise-sensitive and can’t sleep when it’s too loud, better bring ear plugs 🫠🙂
