The riad is tastefully appointed, clean and lived up to the pictures. What destroyed the whole experience for us was the un-Manager Moha of Riad Azzouna - unfriendly, unhelpful, unwilling and unaccommodating. We arrived 2 days after the earthquake, perhaps the best time to test a hotel's true capabilities. We decided to check -in 2 nights ahead of our original booking (our other hotel booking near the Atlas Mts was closed due to damage caused by the quake). When we arrived, he virtually did not want to let us in and even denying we even had a booking without checking properly. When we asked him if we would be safe here, his instant reply was 'No, this place is not safe. The whole medina is not safe' When we asked if there was any damage to the property, he said the damage was minor. He left us to draw our own conclusions and made us wonder if he wanted us to cancel our booking altogether, let alone stay 2 more nights in view of the fact that we didn't know where to go. Did the property owner brief him on how to present themselves and reassure guests? As we had arrived after dinner, we asked if there were restaurants nearby he could recommend, his reply was that everything was closed, their kitchen was closed but we could order online ourselves without offering any help. There was zero attempt at offering any help whatsoever to help hungry and tired guests, not even some leftover bread in the kitchen perhaps. The next day, we asked where we could go to explore the medina, again he said everything was closed which was patently untrue! What he couldn't answer, he simply forwarded me the owner's contact and toild me to contact him myself. How 'assuring'. I don't see how a person like that could be in the front line of customer service, with his smirk, lack of courtesy and negativity. When I read other reviews describing his as friendly and helpful, I can only think that we must talking about a different person. The week after the earthquake was a difficult and uncertain time for both travellers and hotel owners. The other places we stayed in were exemplary in how they accommodated us under the circumstance and the fortitude they showed. We were very grateful and told them so. To add insult to injury, the owner of Riad Azzouna did not respond to any of my messages. It is not nice to write a bad review but I do not want others to be put through the bad experience we had. Not even the most beautiful property can make up for the total dereliction of basic service. Moha was a complete disaster! Stay there at your own risk!
