Dar Alif

Dar Alif is a quiet riad situated away from the manic souks and squares where you will be pestered to buy their wares. After a few days you realise that everyone - stall holders, waiters, anyone giving directions - are after your money! The alleyway to the riad is not very welcoming. It is worth getting the transfer booked by the riad from the airport as they will lead you to the door. The Dar Alif provides a pleasant, quiet refuge. Lovely breakfast - fruit, bread , preserves, cake etc. If like me you need a Yorkshire cuppa tea ask for black tea with cold milk at breakfast. The rooms are individually decorated, ours was Africa. Lovely comfortable bed, clean towels, bath robes and gorgeous orange blossom soap. No natural light which made make up/hair a challenge. Phillip and Hubert were friendly and helpful. Wine is available, not many places in Marrakesh serve alcohol.

My wife and I took our two sons (11 and 8) to Marrakech for four nights and this was a perfect Riad. We were all together in one room but the boys were curtained off in their own little 'grotto' which was perfect. The Riad was gorgeous. Clean, well maintained and with a wonderful calm and tranquil atmosphere. The staff were so warm and friendly and made us feel really at home. The location was good for us, in a quiet area, five minutes from one smaller square and 10 to 15 .inutes through a souk to Jamaa al-Fna. We recommend taking the option of the transfer organised by the Riad. It's roughly the same price and they organise everything. We would definitely return.

I have stayed in numerous riad's in Morocco and Dar Alif has been by far my best experience. Beautiful design and decor and exceptionally clean and well presented. The beauty of the riad however is irrelevant if your hosts are a disappointment. Needless to say the staff at Dar Alif are a real joy, Philippe and Isabelle really go out our their way to give you the warmest welcome and make you feel at home! Navigating the medina can be overwhelming and confusing. Philippe took the time to go through everything with us to get our bearings, you will be provided with everything you need to get back home after your days out in Marrakech! All of the staff really go above and beyond, Khadijah and Khalid were extremely attentive and do their upmost to ensure you will have the best experience. We only ate breakfast once (We are not really breakfast people) and it was lovely. Beautifully served on the riads gorgeous terrace. Rooms are excellently presented, the plunge pool is invaluable for cooling off on those very hot days. Overall the whole riad had such a serene and relaxing feel to it, and we would happily stay time and time again. -Alex and Jodie

Extraordinarily beautiful Bed & Breakfast. A quiet refuge in the busy old city. Nice breakfast. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Very welcoming hosts. The night guard Hubert was incredibly friendly and helpful.

We were welcomed warmly from our taxi by Khedija the chef at the riad and were immediately made to feel right at home. We were recommended a few places to eat and nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff and the owners Philippe and Isabel who were full of helpful tips and recommendations for excursions and “must-see’s”. The food was some of the best we ate whilst in Marrakech with Khedija’s kefte being gratefully received after a day in the heat. Abdel the night Porter for our stay was a friendly face after a day out and quickly fixed the air-conditioning for us when it conked out (much to our delight!). Khalid was a great help too when it came to finding a printing shop (we didn’t realise Marrakech airport only accepts paper tickets until 12 hours before our flight…).

The rooms and bathrooms were decorated beautifully with great taste reflecting traditional Morrocan style and were clean, the bed was comfortable, the top terrace where I spent most of my time was great, but what stroke me most was how splendid the Riad was. It really gave me the true feeling staying in a special place. Isabelle, Philip and all their staff I met (Khalid & Rashid & the great cook Khadijah) were helpful, friendly and very courteous. I definitely recommend Riad Dar Alif if one want to stay in the Medina in close proximity to many landmarks.

This place is fantastic Isabelle, Phillippe and Mohammed simply can't do enough for you. Phillippe spent time with us on arrival to give advice on Marrakech. Riad Dar is situated in a good location with the nearest square 5 minutes walk and the main Jemaa El Fna about 15 minutes. Breakfast was lovely sat on the roof terrace and likewise dinner was superb, we had the tagine and it was excellent. Beer and wine were available at a very reasonable price The place is really clean and the room was a good size with a Tanzania theme from the hosts previous ventures. Phillippe recommended a guide for a walking tour which was really good although be prepared to walk quick! They also arranged collection from the airport and transfer to our next location.

warm and friendly reception from Mohammed, followed by mint tea, of course, and we later met Philip and Isabelle, who were both charming and very helpful. This is a beautiful and immaculate riad, very tastefully decorated, with a rooftop terrace, where we had the pleasure of eating a delicious dinner. My wife and I highly recommend Dar Alif for a short or longer stay, to explore the bustle of Marrakesh and then return to this calm oasis.
