Fairfield Inn & Suites Marion

We spent three nights at this Fairfield while in town for our niece's wedding. Upon arrival, I started coughing while checking in. My spouse and I noticed a fragrance from the carpet, which still smelled like mildew. We were assigned room 322. That room had a heavy mildew smell and we discovered black mold in the bathroom. This kicked off a heavy asthma attack. Melony, the front desk clerk, immediately came to the room and moved us to nearby room 312. At her request, I emailed photos of the black mold and a severely broken lamp from the room. Due to my complaint, the manager approved extra Bonvoy points for me. Room 312 was also in disrepair. Less mildewy, but the sinks were very slow to drain, the bottom dresser drawer refused to close and the toilet seat was loose. We had to request toilet paper and additional towels from the front desk (instead of housekeeping replacing them when needed). The covered drive through in front of the lobby was blocked by numerous motorcycles. This meant unloading our car in the rain. The worst was the lobby. I couldn't have breakfast with my in-laws, nor socialize in the evening, due to my allergy to the carpet smell. EVERY time I walked through there, a coughing fit would ensue after about 60 seconds there. The hotel itself is in poor shape. Melony told me they are planning a remodel soon, but it's not soon enough to warrant a return visit. Nor will the bonus reward points persuade me to return there.

The hotel was clean and everything was in working order. We were able to check in upon arrival, which was around 3:30. The hotel was full but there was still plenty of parking when we returned around 1:00 am. Nothing was amazing, but a very solid hotel for one night. Would stay again.

Breakfast was scarce. No sweet rolls mini bagels , and watered down waffle mix. The lady that worked there was very nice but she had a little to work with. Supplies in the room were pitiful. The bar of soap was very little. We got two conditioners and one shampo. Took a Kleenex from the box was empty. No extra box around we had to call for it. Lightbulbs burnt out. We had to call for them. It seems to me. Somebody should be double checking these rooms. We were trying out a Fairfield Inn, thinking it would be nicer than others.

Pros: Jared the front desk person was really warm and welcoming. The breakfast was actually good. Lots of restaurant options right near by Cons: The toilet was dirty, black mold or whatever it was in the shower, rooms are outdated, wallpaper coming off walls, bed a bit hard, but okay. I'm being charged an extra fee, to which noone can or could explain why. Jared had to call his General Manager for help. At first, Shay the AGM tried to tell me its an ******* issue, its not because the transaction happened the day I checked in. Then thought I had purchased something in their very small store, again...no. The extra transaction is still pending on my account, so hopefully it will drop off. If not, I will be calling. Overall, this place was okay for just a 1 night stay, but I wouldn't stay beyond that.

Friendly staff, nice lobby, decent breakfast choices. Room outdated, hand prints on mirrors n tv, damp smell, bathtub chipping, small rooms for the price.

Property was below average not worth the amount of money paid. Property has an and infestation that they were aware about but did not tell anyone because it is “hit or miss”. Wallpaper peeling, sheets dingy, and furniture out of date. The room is very overpriced for accommodations.

Polite check-in and they worked hard to find a room ready since the mobile check-in doesn't work on this property. Good sized room but needs major improvement. The beds were comfy and water plentiful and hot when needed. But, furniture is beat up and the bathroom tub is very worn and the stopper broken. There is a train track nearby and heard early morning before sunrise. Lots of food choices nearby and walkable although the major traffic intersection doesn't have any pedestrian crosswalks.

Staff was very friendly. Lobby was newer than the rooms. Although the room was very clean and spacious it could be updated. We had a King bed suite. Bed was very hard. My husband liked it. I didn't. We would definitely stay there again!

The property is older and in need of updating. The night we stayed, the other guests were very loud. Room smelled dingy and damp. This was the only hotel with rooms available in the area and I now know why.
