I always stay at the Peninsula in Makati whenever im in Manila and have given them 5 stars every time. There was one thing that set them apart, SERVICE! They are my measure for any hotel in the world to receive a 5 star review. This place is new and has a potential to get there but not yet. Lets start with the not so good. As a Titanium Member I didnt appreciate the level of service in the club lounge. It was insincere and a lot of lip service. The hotel was less than 50% occupied and they could not upgrade me. I had a chance to provide feedback to one of the front desk managers Tami, she made it happen. They could have been honest about the reason why I couldnt be upgraded, maybe I would understand but to give me bunch of crappy sales talk is something that doesnt end well with me because I always investigate to get to the truth and I do find way to get to the real scoop, whether its from the bell boy, cleaning personnel or anyone who works in the hotel, I find the real scoop. They also promised me to cater to my health food needs in the lounge which happened in the beginning but towards the end was retracted and said they can no longer cater to it. That is not excellent service, that is LIP SERVICE! Now the good! The location is great, Megamall is right across the street and everything you need is there. Shangrila Mall and Podium for more high end option are within 5 min walk. The rooms are nice and comfortable. The suites especially are really heavenly. You wont really hear much from the outside if you go to the high floors. The gym is just ok. What really left a lasting memory from my stay were the breakfast staff. Chef Aaron took care of all my specialized healthy meals and really made sure that everything is to my specification. Mikey, I believe he is the assistant to the Chef was the first one who greeted me on my first day and he introduced me to the right people to make sure I was taken care of. Carlos is the my smoothie guy who never failed to deliver the best morning smoothies and of course the best hostess on the floor, Shiela (I hope I got her name right from Bicol). There were other people there but I have to say that the breakfast crew were the one who provided me with consistent excellent world class service. Would I stay here again? Maybe if the Bonvoy club lounge team gets their act together. My titanium status is something I work hard to keep and I deserve better than what that team has given me.
