I used this hotel in two capacities while doing a Gokyo-Everest trek led by Mountain Travel Sobek: We used them first upon arrival in Lukla for just our lunch; and then we got unexpectedly stuck in Lukla for 2 nights when a long spell of poor weather/fog moved in. After experiencing some of the higher lodges with very few amenities (like heat or good bedding), I can truly say that Everest Summit Lodge was an outstanding experience that improved my feelings/outlook about getting stuck. The rooms were spacious, the beds were outstanding and included full-length electric heating pads - as well as some of the best pillows and blankets I'd seen in 10 days. The bathroom featured a good sink and flushing toilets - the shower was warm... but not quite hot - but all of these features were, again, a vast improvement compared with how we'd been spending most of our nights higher up. The dining room was heated (they rolled in several large portable heating units) such that every dining experience was warm and pleasant. The staff were uniformly outstanding and generous with seconds/food. Our meals were set plates - i.e. there wasn't a menu - with many good things to choose from (e.g. great soups, pasta, local momos, vegetables)... they also had great baked rolls and even did some cake-y desert. We enjoyed 2 dinners, 2 lunches, and 2 breakfasts during our emergency stay - all was welcome. There is a very large scenic courtyard with grass and trees that is very peaceful - and faces away from the airport. The room windows were also large, providing lovely natural light if you just wanted to sit and read in your room. Loved Everest Summit Lodge!
